Default Re: 7676 probs!

You have two versions of GCC installed;
The kernel was compiled with one (GCC 3.4) and you're trying to compile nVidia with the other (GCC4)
Maybe export CC=gcc34 will work?

Default Re: 7676 probs!

ok, had to install gcc 3.4, then did as you said export CC=gcc-3.4. this seemed to do the trick, nvidia installer did its thing, log file gave no errors. I updated my xorg.conf file, rebooted comp but x failed to start with errors failed to load nvidia mod no such mod, failed to load glx no such mod. I also tried with the older 7174 driver with the same results.

i did lsmod sure enough no nvidia mod, so did modprobe it detected it and when i re-did lsmod it was listed. tried to insmod with no success. Thats as far as i get, any more idears please.

cheers

Are you using the installer or building the drivers hand?
If you're building by hand you need run make install to install the drivers.

Every day somebody post a problem where the proper build environment for modules isn't in place. I don't understand why the distributors don't fix this.

no idear what this means!

tup34,
The nvidia driver is not correctly installed. There's alot more to the driver than just nvidia_drv.o. Please post an nvidia-bug-report.log for review.

Thanks,

Please try the export CC=gcc34 thingie again.
Re-run the installer and post the nVidia installer error log. (Should be under /var)

Cheers,
