Default digital vibrance in suse 9.3

i know there's a way to enable digital vibrance in linux by editing the XF86Config file but suse doesn't seem to use that. there's no such file in the /etc/X11 directory which is where it'd normallly be. how would i enable digital vibrance?

i guess since SuSE 9.3 comes with Xorg, the config file should be
/etc/X11/xorg.conf
(same syntax as XFree86.conf)

damn, would you know how to edit the file? it doesn't let me. normally i would log in as root to edit such things but suse 9.3 doesn't let me do that. when i su into the konsole it only seems to effect the konsole. any way for me to log in as root globabally momentarily?

if zou switch tuo root user in a x-terminal with su, the DISPLAY access is disabled by default ins SuSe 9.3
try sux instead of su, and you can start windowed applications again.

I just do "sudo vi /etc/X11/xorg.conf"

vi is a bit awkward to use, but it works for that simple config file.

press 'i' to get into typing mode, press 'ESC' to enter command mode.
press 'dd' to delete a line in command mode.
press 'wq' in command mode to save the file and quit.

@gram_vaz: you can also use `nvidia-settings` to control the digital vibrance setting (e.g. Display Device -> CRT-0 -> Digital Vibrance).

when i add digital vibrance the gui won't even start up. it'll tell me digitalvibrance isn't a valid option and i'll have to reconfigure sax2 to get the gui back up.

this is how i edit it in:

Section "Device"
BoardName "GeForce 6800 GT"
BusID "2:0:0"
Driver "nv"
Identifier "Device[0]"
DigitalVibrance "1"
VendorName "NVidia"
EndSection

what am i doing wrong?

also, what are the values for digital vibrance. from what i've read on another forum 0 means off, 1 means low, 2 means medium, and 3 means high.

You should replace nv with nvidia and you should place the keyword Option before DigitalVibrance like this:

Option "DigitalVibrance" "1"
