Yeah, we really do appreciate all the work you do and information you provide Chris. I've certainly learned a lot from it.

My question to you all who have been viewing the videos. What resolution is your monitor in and are you viewing them in fullscreen?

I watched them at work, my monitor was running at 1024x768 (it's a 17 incher, just like my...keyboard?). And yes I viewed them in fullscreen.

Just FYI. Watching them in a resolution out of sync to its native resolution will distort the results for you to some extent. As the image is stretched to fit your resolution. I have a very good WoW comparison video coming soon for those disastisfied with the current videos. However I need to get them uploaded and that may take time. I apologise for the wait. I do hope you all understand that this is a very time consuming task for me and once again I had little notice.

In some games the performance hit from going from Quality to High Quality is bigger than others, for example in UT2004 ONS-Primeval takes around a 33-50% performance hit depending on the level of AF used. This is why I'd like the Image Quality slider to be completely independant of the optimization options (ie let us turn on some opts in HQ)

Take your time man, there's no rush. We're all just thankful you're willing to do that for us.

Alright here are the updated WOW videos I promised.

Geforce 7800GTX 77.77: This is an uploaded WOW comparison to help people see the shimmering reduction from another software point of view. Both tests were performed in High Quality.

can you make the movies longer than 2 seconds? as they are hard to watch if you blink.

They're fixing a problem they knew the card(s) had, a problem that could have been prevented from the start. ESPECIALLY with the G7.
The GF6 series didn't experience shimmering until some of the later drivers and they addressed that issue with the clamp fix. I can still go back and install the drivers that came with my eVGA 6800GT (61.34s) and there isn't any shimmering (what I'm running right now on my 6800U just to verify that). It even passed my toughest test case (MVP 2005 -- which, btw, still shimmers a little even on my ATI card even when the optimizations are turned off).

Also, the GF7 issue appears to be different since the clamp + HQ mode fix didn't seem to help with GF7s although it does with the GF6s.

They knew? Are you psychic?

The fact is, that it seems that the shimmering did nothing for the performance whatsoever. So there's simply not a single reason for nV to introduce it intentionally.

I agree that it's sloppy that they missed it. But I doubt very very much that they did this on purpose.

And that makes your statement quite superflous.

Which article do you have in mind? 3DCenter never spoke about 30% performance loss. While there is obviously a fixed driver in the beta-testing, I still recomend to read 3DCenter's article about the G70 AF texture shimmering problem Because Fuad don't got the whole intention of my article.
