Default Kernel 2.6.13, modprobe nvsound makes reiserfs driver crash

Hi,

When I attempt to install the nforce (306) driver, all goes fine
until it loads the nvsound module and boom! the reiserfs crashes
and my system does not longer respond (my root partition fs is
reiserfs)

I use slackware 10.1 (current) with kernel 2.6.13

I use Slackware Current (30-8-2005 :P ) with a 2.6.13 kernel and a reiserfs partition (no root, root partition is ext3) also. & nVidia sound that i install 4 soundstorm support go well (alsa before).

Well, I am glad it works for you...

As I already said, my root partition fs is reiserfs, the nforce installer compiles
fine the module but at the time it modprobes the nvsound module, the
reiserfs crashes and the system hangs at this point, not other solution than
a hard reset/reboot.

The reiserfs driver is compiled as built-in and I first set CONFIG_HZ_1000 and
after the first crash, I set CONFIG_HZ_250 but that did not fix the problem.

I used the same kernel config from 2.6.12.4 where the nforce 306 driver
works without a problem so I stay in 2.6.12.4 for now

Finally something similar happened (without kernelpanic) to me onetime. This happened after my OS make the common hd scan (fsck ext3) at begining of the OS load (init). The sound module crashed or configured without sound but no kernel panic, then i unloaded module, loaded again (modprobe) and sounds goes well.

I get also kernel panic, when try to compile nvsound and to load it, there is kernel panic :O I use 2.6.13.1 :/ with 2.6.12.2 I didin't have any problems. What the **** is going on ((. Everytime I want to try new kernel, nforce drivers crash :[. I won't back to 2.6.12.2, but i can't live without sound ( Anybody solve this problem ???

im running slack 10.2 with 2.6.13.4 kernel


abit nf7-s v2.0 (bios 27) = nforce2 with soundstorm
i get kernel panics too
ext3 fs

I have this problem too.

I'm running slack 10.2 with kernel 2.6.14.2, patched to reiser4.

nforce2 with soundstorm in an Asus a7n8x-e deluxe

Any solution it's welcome.

PS.: My english sucks.
