Default Chaintech 6600 Debian (Monitor goes into safe mode at boot)

I have a Chaintech Geforce 6600. It takes Nvidia drivers.

I am trying to run it on Debian/Mepis with the 7174 Kernal Linux 6.2.10. with drivers installed and config changes. The monitor goes into safemose just before the gray screen and KDE login.

I have an Intel SDRAM Motherboard year 2002
Pentium 4 1.7
512 SDRAM
Sony e400 monitor year 2000
Chaintech 6600 Geforce 6

It runs fine in vesa but not in nv. With and without 'matching' 7174 drivers installed

nvidia glx 1.0.7174-4
nvidia-kernel-2.6.10* 1.0.7174-2MEPIS3.3 *or version you are on
nvidia-kernel-common 1.0.7174-1
nvidia-kernel-source 1.0.7174-4
nvidia-settings 1.0.2005.05.25-2* *optional (I put this in)

In Xf86Config-4 (not XF86Config-4.in) file I comment out 'GlCore' and 'dri'

When I try to run the Display in nvidia it gives similar results to nv. With nvidia drivers installed.

Cavurn,
Does this problem exist if you use the 1.0-7676 nvidia driver?

Can you ssh/telnet into the system when the video stops working to generate a bug report?
Have you verified that you have the most recent BIOS for your motherboard applied?

Thanks,
Lonni

I dont think 7676 is working with the 3.3.2 Mepis build. I think that's what they have on there.

I will update my Bios. Also I can't seem to run nvidia-bug-report.sh under shell access. The root access to generate the log file.

Cavurn,
I'm afraid I don't understand. Why are you not able to generate a bug report as root? If Mepis doesn't allow root, but only sudo, that should allow you to generate a bug report as well.

Also, can you clarify what you mean by 1.0-7676 not working with Mepis-3.3.2? Do you mean you're seeing the same problems as with 1.0-7174 or new/different problems? Either way, providing a bug report against 1.0-7676 would be best.

Thanks,
Lonni

Here is my XFree86 log:

I dont think Linux supports PCI Express cards yet as my card is a 6600 PCI Express with an AGP Crossover chip to turn it into an AGP.

Cavurn,
The log you attached indicates that you're using the vesa X driver, and not the NVIDIA driver.

Linux support PCI Express hardware.

Please review the README that ships with the NVIDIA driver ( /usr/share/doc/NVIDIA_GLX-1.0/README.txt ) for instructions on how to install & configure X with the nvidia driver. If you're still having problems please generate and attach an nvidia-bug-report.log for review.

Thanks,
Lonni
