Default What files changed by Nvidia driver install?

Installing NVIDIA drivers on Fedora Core 3 system has broken my system.

I have removed the GeForce 6200 and replaced with the older Matrox card I was using.

Looks like udev & modprobe are taking very long time on booting...

Initializing hardware take maybe 5+ minutes this on a dual 1.4Ghz machine.
Before the NVIDIA driver install it took maybe 30 seconds!

Also when it does get booted some apps run amuck with taking all memory and starting swapping...something as simple as network config applet.

I'd like to remove the changed files and basicilly roll back.

Any help in fixing this would be great.

gene-photo,
You can uninstall the NVIDIA driver with the --uninstall switch. Please see the README for more details, as well as a list of the files that the driver installs.

Thanks,
Lonni

Thanks...I tried that...but doesn't it just remove the driver?

In other words it doesn't put back all the files that it changed or roll back the kernel changes does it?

That is why I want to know which files it changes.

I am having problems with what looks like some python scripts.

Something is causing some apps in this case a .py to consume all memory and start paging.

Any other ideas would be appericated,
Gene

Hi,
the driver does not change the kernel

The driver installs ONE kernel module. Some X libs (libGL, etc), one X driver

So, when you uninstall it, and something is still broken, reinstall the X packets.
Since you are using a rpm-based distro this should take only one or two minutes.

Where is the Readme that you reference? Is it in the .run? Or in some install dir....

Thanks again,

Thanks all...the failure that I'm seeing are of two types...the kernel is booting slowly...looks likesomething with modprobe.

Second type is apps when x is running and they start to consume memory and seem to be python or python script related.

I will try some of these ideas tomorrow AM.

Thanks again,
Gene

Hi,
the readme is on the nvidia homepage, where you got the drivers.
It is also installed to /usr/share/doc/nvidia (maybe, I am using gentoo&ebuilds), plus somewhere in the driver-archiv, easily reachable with the --extract-only option.
(sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-7676-pkg0.run --extract-only will give you a NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-7676 dir in your current directory.)
