Default 1.0-7676 for FreeBSD i386 released

This FreeBSD/i386 driver release heads-up appears to have been missing.

Release Highlights:

* Improved GeForce 7800 GTX performance.
The 1.0-7676 NVIDIA Accelerated FreeBSD Graphics Driver Set for FreeBSD/i386 is available for download via HTTP and FTP.

Please note: the `nvidia-settings` utility can be built from source (available from ftp://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/nvidia-settings/) if the binary included in the 1.0-7676 .tar.gz package doesn't work (e.g. due to a ports/ library version conflict).

Please see http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/show...48&postcount=5 if you're using FreeBSD 6.0-STABLE or a more recent FreeBSD 6.x release.

No love for FreeBSD? Anyways the 7676 drivers are much better than the 7667. I noticed a obvious increase in performance from average 20fps to 30-50fps in Enemy Territory with my FX5500, during intensive scenes on server with 40 players. Nice work Nvidia

Just try to install on FreeBSD 6.0-BETA5, but I can not:

In file included from nvidia_ctl.c:14:
./nv-freebsd.h:25:2: #error This driver does not support FreeBSD 6.x/-CURRENT!
./nv-freebsd.h:49:31: machine/bus_memio.h: No such file or directory
*** Error code 1

Stop in /tmp/NVIDIA-FreeBSD-x86-1.0-7676/src.
*** Error code 1

Stop in /tmp/NVIDIA-FreeBSD-x86-1.0-7676.

Any idea ?

@vnpenguin: FreeBSD 6.0-BETA pre-releases are not supported by the 1.0-7676 NVIDIA FreeBSD graphics driver; it is reported to work OK after removing the two lines mentioned in the error message you posted, though.

Exclamation Re: 1.0-7676 for FreeBSD i386 released

Is there a plan / roadmap for a FreeBSD amd64 nvidia driver ?
Thanx !

I think we really need this driver !
I don't figure out what is "complicated" in making a driver for amd64 since loadable kernel module function is working and you already made one for i386

Anyway just think that you'll be god for a lot of users and also that x86_64 platform are not obsolet but future one so you won't have to do it later, and take all freeBSD market in one driver !! ( ATI, what a laugh, windows driver don't even work )
So please help us ! FreeBSD in 64bit is really impressive !
Much secure and faster than any 64bit linux distro I've tried and ther is lot of multimedia softwares in it that needed 3D acceleration !

last edit : take a look here http://www.pcinpact.com/sondages/detail/55.htm
and see the proportion of people having an AMD 64bit processor ( and that's just for France ! and not all guys voted ! )

I like FreeBSD a lot and I'm really grateful that NVIDIA provides great drivers for FreeBSD.

Any news on a legacy nvidia driver for FreeBSD 6.0?

Code:
Below are the "legacy" GPUs that are no longer supported in the unified
driver version 7667 and 7676.

NVIDIA CHIP NAME DEVICE PCI ID

RIVA TNT 0x0020
RIVA TNT2/TNT2 Pro 0x0028
RIVA TNT2 Ultra 0x0029
Vanta/Vanta LT 0x002C
RIVA TNT2 Model 64/Model 64 Pro 0x002D
Aladdin TNT2 0x00A0
GeForce 256 0x0100
GeForce DDR 0x0101
Quadro 0x0103
GeForce2 GTS/GeForce2 Pro 0x0150
GeForce2 Ti 0x0151
GeForce2 Ultra 0x0152
Quadro2 Pro 0x0153"

I own a GeForce2 Ti which has been working perfectly with 7174 driver (7667 and 7676 no longer support the card) but i want to upgrade to 6.0 and i will be forced to buy a new card (my card is working perfectly...) if a legacy driver is not released nor the 7174 driver works with FreeBSD 6.0

Does 1.0-7174 work for you on FreeBSD 5.x? If so, chances are it'll also work with FreeBSD 6.0, with some minor tweaking in nv-freebsd.h.
