Angry driver reinstallation on sarge (kernel by hand)

Hi all,
look for this in first 10 forum's pages, but nothing...
So,
on Debian Sarge, recompiled kernel (the same vanilla 2.6.8, but I like monolitic...). Installed nvidia driver with installer. Ok. All works and I played Quake3 Arena...beatifull.
Upgrade the kernel (now 2.6.13). Reboot with new kernel in cli (no X). Removed old nvidia drivers (nvidia-diver --uninstall, seems to remember -- I don't have my Linux box, now...). Recompiling it, installer doesn't find kernel headers (which obviously I have). Passing the path to them doesn't fix. Also I have ln -s /usr/src/my-kernel-sources linux (done before kernel recompile).

This has nothing to do with the kernel version.
Please do not reply me suggesting nvdia driver sarge packages installation. Compiling the kernel IS simple. Running the nvidia driver IS simple. Only
very very very frustrating read form installer it don't find sources when you done right things to compile THE sources...
What installer is looking for (and where) ?

Thanks in advance
Piero

Please attach the `nvidia-installer` log file, /var/log/nvidia-installer.log.

FYI: i have solved the prob: deleting nvidia Framebuffer from the kernel solved it.

I have the same problem (http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=690474). I do have a framebuffer support, but for sure it is not the nvidia one.

uto,
Any other driver (including framebuffer drivers) that are using the videocard will prevent other drivers from accessing it.

Thanks,
Lonni
