Default fx5200 performance on suse9.3 amd64

hi all,

im wondering if im getting the best of my FX5200 DH: glxgears reports 720 fps at 300x300 resolution, and enemy territory runs way slower on my new amd64 as compared to my old amd-32 (also with fx5200), even with the most conservative
graphics settings.

i have attached some output from the proc filesystem. my questions are:

is the nvidia agp driver faster than the agpgart kernel module?
why is agp fast write disabled, and does this inflict performance?

many thanks in advance

system:
suse 9.3-amd64
kernel 2.6.11.4-20a-default
asus k8n mobo, 8xagp, gainward fx5200 dh graphics adapter
amd athlon 64 3000+

nvidia driver:
NVRM version: NVIDIA Linux x86_64 NVIDIA Kernel Module 1.0-7167 Fri Feb 25 09:11:39 PST 2005

gnu:
GCC version: gcc version 3.3.5 20050117 (prerelease) (SUSE Linux)

Activating 'agp fast write' rarely improves performance, and more often than not, causes instability.

Does this problem persist if you use the more recent 1.0-7676 driver? If so, please provide benchmark numbers that illustrate the differeing performance between 32 & 64bit drivers, as well as how you obtained those numbers. Also, please post an nvidia-bug-report.log from both environments.

Thanks,
Lonni

hello lonni
sorry i have no benchmarks from the amd32. i have updated the kernel

uname -r
2.6.11.4-21.9-default

and the nvidia driver from 7176 to 7676. i still get 775 fps for glxgears and 25 fps for gl-117 (any other tests? whats a typical framerate for fx5200 on amd64?)
i have attached the 7176 and the 7676 nvidia-bug-reports. i dont understand the diff of the two.

thanks
ludwig

ps ive zipped the files because theyre too large (?), as the upload manager says

Ludwig,
If you don't have any benchmarks for x86, then how do you know that x86_64 is slower than x86?

Thanks,
Lonni
