Hi, before running into trouble, i want to ask the freaks.
I want to upgrade my system, to an Athlon64X2 cpu. But i want to hold my AGP nvidia6800board. So witch Mainbaord is the best for Linux. Supporting : Athlon64X2 and AGP ? My choise was an Asus A8V-Deluxe Mainbaord, but noone can confirm, that the Board support dual core cpus. Some advice ? |

You should check out the Gigabyte K8NS Ultra-939 too.
That supports dual core with the F7 or higher bios. Also I had no problems with getting all the onboard (audio, dual GB-LAN, firewire, etc) running with 2.6.8+ kernels. It's AGP as well. I wasn't ready to give up my 6800GT yet .I just checked out the cpu support list for that A8V Deluxe. http://support.asus.com/cpusupport/cpusupport.aspx It supports dual cores (in bios 1013 and 1014).

I used to use the board(had it with a 5900 Ultra) and it does support the X2, you just need to make sure you have the latest BIOS update. Great motherboard, I would highly suggest it. Just know that AGP is dead, future cards are going to be PCI-X.

The A8V-E Deluxe (PCIe) does not support X2s.
The A8V-E SE (PCIe, not deluxe) does, as does the A8V deluxe (AGP). |

Likely you already bought a new motherboard but if you still need one a good alternative would be a ALI M1695 chipset. Motherboards with this chipset support BOTH AGP and PCI-Express. Various big vendors sell boards with these chips.
