There is no single bug that causes high CPU usage and Xid errors. Many bugs with those symtoms have been resolved in the past, however its impossible to state whether the particular bug you are describing is resolved unless I can reproduce it.

yes I know.. but I really have no I idea how to reproduce it. Indeed using the latest 7676 with kernel 2.6.13 helps.. now I get more than a week of uptimes but suddenly I get a freeze. I'll try a few things when I'll get some more time to compile stuff in debug mode. Anyway I'll try the new drivers when they are released. Just one more question: the fixed bug you were talking about applies only to the geforce4?

thanx again for any answer

The KDE splashscreen bug applies to all cards currently supported by the 1.0-7676 driver.

Hi,
I have the same problem of freeze during the splash screen on KDE 3.4.
I have the version 1.0-7167 of the driver because of the 1.0-7676 does not work with my conf.
The problem comes from :
Option "RenderAccel" "true"
In the xorg.conf with :
Section "Extensions"
Option "Composite" "Enable"
Option "RENDER" "Enable"
EndSection

I can test on :
- debian sarge with xorg and a Nvidia GeForce2 MX 100 DDR/200 DDR
- debian sarge with xorg and a Nvidia GeForce4 420 Go 32M

Without this option, my KDE can start but it is so slow.
With this option, KDE freeze.

I love the composite mode, so I use the nv driver ( ). It is faster than nvidia driver without RenderAccel.

Hi, sorry for not replying for so long. Indeed, after some stupidity on my side I was able to resolve the issue by commenting out

# Option "AllowGLXWithComposite" "true"
# Option "RenderAccel" "true"

in my xorg.conf file and commenting out the entire Extensions section:

#Section "Extensions"
# Option "Composite" "Enable"
#EndSection

However, it seems now that the box freezes, when the screen saver, which is just a black screen, comes up. At least I'm not able to convince the box to show me the contents of the screen, again.

However, at the moment it is possible to log in from another computer, and I let it run the bug report script. The result attached is taken at the moment where the box just shows me a black screen.

I have attached the result to this post.

Any help would be appreciated.

You seem to have conflicting AGP support:
Option "NvAGP" "1"
Sep 23 16:54:56 ligeti kernel: NVRM: not using NVAGP, an AGPGART backend is loaded!

Do you have agpgart compiled into your kernel?

Hi Lonni,

yes, I do have AGP compiled into my kernel. Should I disable it?

If you want to use NvAGP=1, then yes, you shouldn't have kernel AGP support.

Thanks, I will disable it.

By the way are there any estimates, when there might be a new driver release which actually enables me to use GLX and 3d hardware acceleration with my system?

Thanks,

Hanno

I'm afraid I don't understand what you're referring to. The bug report you posted shows that you are already using the glx module, and the nvidia driver provides 3D hardware acceleration by default.

Hi Lonni,

sorry, I have to apologise for the previous post. My installation has some problems under KDE envoking the GL screensavers. However, this seems to be a problem of KDE, rather than of the Nvidia driver, as xscreensavers works fine. So I apologise for my question.

All the best,

Hanno

Any chance of a backport of the fix into the 1.0.7xxx series? I find this a pretty big issue, and I don't like waiting for the 1.0.8xxx series which will contain a lot of stuff that I really don't care about. Or is the 1.0.8xxx series imminent?
