well we(Kel_Sceptic and Aky -developers @ WarpX distribution) have resolved this by disableing the AGPGART support from the drivers and makeing it run on the NVIDIA's default AGP support. Now what you have to do:
1. Extract the nvidia drivers: "NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-6629-pkg"X".run -x" 2. Download the patch that we've provided. 3. cp NVIDIA-1.0-6629-02.28.2005+warpxmod-09.24.2005.diff.txt /path/where/u/have/extracted/NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-6629-pkg"X" 4. patch -p0 < NVIDIA-1.0-6629-02.28.2005+warpxmod-09.24.2005.diff.txt 5. Execute the nvidia-installer in the extracted directory 6. Edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf and add Option "NVAGP" "1" to the Device section *We have patched this driver cause all the new drivers after this one give us the XID error. **We've made this patch for quite soooo soooo long but we made it public now because we've seen that NVIDIA is not doing something to fix the XID or to patch this driver for us. Well thats it. Enjoy it If u have any questions feel free to ask them Kel_Sceptic@Yahoo.com

hi Kel_Sceptic,
I got this error after added #define NOAGPGART in nv-linux.h on kernel 2.6.13. Btw, #define NOAGPGART added after or before #ifndef NOAGPGART? Here's the compiling error I got from 6629 fresh download from nV site. nvidia: Unknown symbol inter_module_get Do you think you can put up the source for me? Thanks. |

Same problem here on FC4 with latest kernel.
Error: 'Unknown symbol inter_module_get' At least the nvidia.ko module seems to compile this time, but it did not get installed into the kernel modules dir. The error appeared after copying it manually and doing 'modprobe nvidia' after that. It may be a small step away from loading the 6629 driver on recent FC kernels. MBE |

No luck here, still Xid: 6 bla bla bla
Vanilla 2.6.13.1 and FX5500 This is getting annoying. I see large amount of posts 'freezing at KDE splash screen', did those ppl even try any other DE or WM, I really doubt that this is a *kde splash screen* problem. Crashing on diffrent versions of X, kernels, various tweaking in modprobe.conf, various patches applayed on nvidia drivers, and still the same sh*t happens. NvAGP set to 0 and really bad performance, welcome to reality. |

to be onest i have never seen a XID error with 6629 drivers so you must be sure that you have completely uninstalled your newer(>6629) drivers especially the X modules and shared libraries
NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-7xxx-pkgx.run --uninstall and then install 6629 drivers. It has to work 100% sure. |

People, don't bother crying and posting tons of messages for help cause the XID (BLACK SCREEN+mouse pointer) bug won't dissapear soon.I THINK NVIDIA doesn't care about us (linux users) anymore. The best thing to do now is to use 6629 driver with the patch i've posted earlier. Just trust me cause it's working 100% (without AGPGART support)!
AND DON'T FORGET TO SET NvAgp to 1 cause the AGPGART support is disabled as I said before |

Ironi this is not a KDE bug or a via bug ... I have an Abit NF7S2-G and a Abit Siluro geforce card and I have this XID bug, or whaterev u wanna call it, in Gnome, IceWM(the lightest WM ever) in XFCE and so on ... my system crashes when i'm using glxgears or playing war3 -opengl or anything that's using GL... about the 8xxx series of drivers ... we will see but about the 7xxx drivers .. no version worked (without crashing, freezing) for me
