Default Question Regarding HL2 collectors edition

I am about to format my computer in just a bit and I can't seem to find my original packaging.

I am trying to figure out if there was a CD-key assosciated with the DVD or whether everything should be stored on the DVD itself and my online steam account?

Also is there a way for me to find out what my key might be with my stored data files?

Any assistance is appreciated.

If you have installed Half-Life 2 already, Steam will have all the information stored internally on your Steam Account.

If you need to reinstall, you will not need to re-enter your CD/DVD-Key.

You can use Steam to reacquire the game content, if necessary.

To fully answer your question, I do not believe you can get your cd/dvd-key information from the files.

K, just an fyi for all

I have finished formatting/reinstalling most of my core files.

I simply moved steam to my second hdd and left it there. When I reinstalled from my dvd, it simply asked for my log-in from steam, as you said Gentle, and that was it.

Thank goodness it was this easy otherwise I would have had to repurchase the game

Yea Sazar.

I recently had to reinstall all my Steam games and I didn't even bother inserting the DVD back in. You can download the entire game from Steam if you want (it just takes a long time for it to get all the files/updates). One of the nicer things about Steam is it keeps all your cd-keys inside your account.
