If Ubuntu has redefined what the runlevels do, then you'll need to make the neccesary adjustments to prevent X from starting at bootup.
Thanks, Lonni |

This new bug report still only shows the 'nv' driver in the included X log. Initially you stated that you were having similar problems with the 'nv' driver. Have you checked to see if there's a newer BIOS for your motherboard? The fact that you can't seem to start X at all with either driver suggests that you're hitting a kernel or BIOS bug.

Ok, I am having a similar problem. When I read the log file created by xorg, I notice absolutely no errors. I'm currently using the 7667 drivers with Ubuntu Breezy; Using the xorg 'nv' module, everything works fine. When I switch the 'nv' to 'nvidia' X crashes. I am able to briefly see the Nvidia logo when I do either 'startx' or 'gdm', but then it crashes with unexpected errors (Signal 11).
I've tried almost everything to fix this problem. |

I believe you're running into a Debian bug that results from an init script breaking the nvidia driver at bootup.
Did you ever install the Debian nvidia driver package on this system? If you install the official NVIDIA 1.0-7676 driver package, does this problem go away until you reboot? If so, check in /etc/init.d/ for a script with nvidia in its name, and either delete or rename it. If you continue to experience problems, please generate and post a full bug report. Thanks, Lonni |

Thanks for the reply Lonni. For the question regarding the install of a Debian nvidia driver package, no, I have not ever installed a 'Debian' package. If you're referring to the repository list that my distrobution uses in order to install the 'nvidia-glx' package, it does use "Debian" based packages.
In the past, I also installed the 7676 drivers. It was the default drivers of the development release for Ubuntu Breezy -- and yes I did have issues as well with it. As for the the nvidia being in /etc/init.d/, there is nothing there that contains the words 'nvidia'. Thanks again...any other suggestions? |

Hey Lonni, I apoligize for the late reply. Viewing the nvidia-bug-report.log file, it seems that the error is being given by 'libglx.a.xlibmesa' whichc doesn't seem to exist. Here is the full log. I have compressed it using the .zip compression format. Thanks in advance

I see a few problems.
At the top of your bug report, it shows that the 1.0-7667 nvidia kernel module is loaded. However, the nvidia driver install log further down in the bug report shows that you had installed 1.0-7676. Your xorg.conf is still referencing the 'nv' driver rather than the 'nvidia' driver.. -Lonni |
