Thx netllama helping for me. It seems the only driver is working for me is 6629. And i am not the only one.

Maybe the developers of the driver should have to know this that something is wrong with the latest drivers.

I got the same thing with the 6629 driver, although it did give me an error that others did not include and may be useful:

Is this of any importance? I can't get my hands on a cable now, but if this doesn't resolve, I will find and order a serial cable from somewhere online.

Thanks for everything.

The rivafb warning may be relevant, although not always. You should verify that you do not have any *fb kernel modules (or worse, compile frame buffer support directly into the kernel such that it prevents the nvidia driver from accesing the videocard) loaded.

Thanks,
Lonni

Hi netllama and all...

Just want to note that I have the very same card as EverIce's, and I'm having the same problem, except, -6629 seems to be working fine.

I've posted my nvidia-bug-report.log at http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/show...54&page=13#187

just in case it will be helpful to see the same card on a different machine.

Thanks.

Now that I've got the card going with -6629, I'm comparing the output from X between 6629 and 7676 (not working of course), and here are some interesting differences:

With 6629:
(--) NVIDIA(0): Linear framebuffer at 0xC0000000
(--) NVIDIA(0): MMIO registers at 0xF9000000
(II) NVIDIA(0): NVIDIA GPU detected as: NV43
(--) NVIDIA(0): VideoBIOS: 05.43.02.61.00
(--) NVIDIA(0): Interlaced video modes are supported on this GPU
(II) NVIDIA(0): Detected PCI Express Link width: 8X
(--) NVIDIA(0): VideoRAM: 262144 kBytes
(II) NVIDIA(0): Connected display device(s): CRT-0
(--) NVIDIA(0): Display device CRT-0: maximum pixel clock at 8 bpp: 400 MHz
(--) NVIDIA(0): Display device CRT-0: maximum pixel clock at 16 bpp: 400 MHz
(--) NVIDIA(0): Display device CRT-0: maximum pixel clock at 32 bpp: 400 MHz

With 7676:
(--) NVIDIA(0): Linear framebuffer at 0xC0000000
(--) NVIDIA(0): MMIO registers at 0xF9000000
(--) NVIDIA(0): Found 2 CRTCs on board
(II) NVIDIA(0): Supported display device(s): CRT-0, CRT-1, DFP-0, TV-0
(II) NVIDIA(0): Boot display device(s): CRT-0
(II) NVIDIA(0): NVIDIA GPU detected as: GeForce Go 6600 GT
(II) NVIDIA(0): Chip Architecture: 0x40
(II) NVIDIA(0): Chip Implementation: 0x43
(II) NVIDIA(0): Chip Revision: 0xa4
(--) NVIDIA(0): VideoBIOS: 05.43.02.61.00
(--) NVIDIA(0): Interlaced video modes are supported on this GPU
(II) NVIDIA(0): Bus detected as PCI Express
(II) NVIDIA(0): Detected PCI Express Link width: 4X
(--) NVIDIA(0): VideoRAM: 262144 kBytes
(II) NVIDIA(0): Connected display device(s): CRT-0
(II) NVIDIA(0): Enabled display device(s): CRT-0
(II) NVIDIA(0): Mapping display device 0 (CRT-0) to CRTC 0
(--) NVIDIA(0): CRT-0: maximum pixel clock: 400 MHz

What's interesting is -6629 reckons it's 8X, while -7676 see it's 4X
This is an AGP card btw. Probably some sort of built-in bridge to PCI-E?

Lightbulb Re: 7667 issues; black screen/ X windows crashing

I also experience experience the BSOD (black screen of death) on my system.

AMD Sempron 3000+
Gainward GeForce 4 TI 128 MB AGP
ECS SiS 760 MX

Distro: Ubuntu Breezy

I am able to get around this by disabling AGP support in the xorg.conf:
option nvagp 0

I tried removing the agpgart module, as suggested on a few threads I read, but it seems that is required for loading any other agp modules. The system automatically detects sis_agp, and I've tried using amd64_agp (as suggested somewhere else), but

cat /proc/driver/nvidia/agp

still returns DISABLED.

So I can use the card, but it seems I cannot enable AGP (but the 3D performance seems decent). I sure would like AGP....

I've attached a bug report of the system running as-is. (I'm not able to recover any information when I get the BSOD).

The bug report you posted shows everything working, so there's no problem for me to look at. Can you generate another bug report after starting X without NvAGP=0?

Also, what kind of motherboard are you using, and which BIOS version?

Thanks,
Lonni

So, here I am. I'm running Ubuntu 5.04 and can't seem to get the nvidia 7667 driver to work. Anyway, I had first installed the 7676 driver, which didn't work (when the xorg.conf file was edited (the 'driver' line was what did it), the system would lock up when loading Gnome (black screen; no view of splash screen)). When I edited the driver line back to 'nv', I could then boot up the GUI normally, but no 3d support (3d screensavers would not work). Before it all, the 3d would work, but painfully slow.

If i use unoffical 'nv' driver it works. But offical drivers wont work. X-server wont start and just gives errors. Installations script wont give any errors. Broplems start when booting OS.

You have the same symptoms. Without posting a bug report, there's no way for anyone else to determine if you have the same problem.

Per the NVIDIA driver README, you should remove the glcore and dri modules from your X configuration.

Then try starting X again. If it fails, post a new bug report.

Thanks,
Lonni
