Considering how many LCDs are @ 1280x1024 and how long 1024 was the standard resolution, I was thinking that it was already at 1280. But thats not so important anyway, but what I wanted to point out was if people want to compare performance (fps), shouldnīt they use comparable resolutions of both console and PC and THEN draw the conclusions?

I personally think that when a video card can run the retail version of COD2 @ 1024x768 at smooth frame rates (at least 40fps) with all maxed out (and at least 8AF and 2AA), then its compareable to what the console does in regard of workload (GPU workload at least). Now the question is what video card is capable to archive that? GTX SLI... Jakup?

I know how my unlocked 6800nu handled the COD2 demo, and while it wasnīt 60fps @ 1024, it was smooth enough to be enjoyable, and even when I played it @ 1280, it wasnīt unplayable... and thats a lousy 128MB AGP card that I didnīt even pay 200 for.

1920x540 = 1036800 pixels ≈ 1280x810 ≈ 1280x800 = quite standard widescreen resolution (in 16:10)

That said, you have to put AA and eventually HDR in the equation... I doubt both XBOX360 and PS3 will apply no AA to their resolution.
So the lines are interlaced horizontally only, right? The 1920 are not cut into half. I once read a review of the Sony KLV-S32A10 and it was claimed that it was capable to run both in 720p AND 1080i, but the tech specs also claimed its max physical resolution is 1366 x 768.

Someone must have done a mistake (review or me), because IF the 1920 arenīt actually 1920i as well, then that particular HDTV ISNīT capable to run 1080i, incl 99% of all HDTVs available here in Europe, because it doesnīt have physically the 1920 pixels/vertical lines.

Sorry for the off-topic post, but this particular case was always confusing me.

Well, the HDTV standard comprises several resolutions, some of which have less than 1920 pixels/line, so, technically Sony's claim could be true.
That said, the highest HDTV res is 1920x1080p ... Though the only LCD TV I'm aware that's capable of displaying it (at least from the ones sold here in europe) is the Philips 40" 42PF9830/10 (there could be more, mind you )...

Ok, end of the OT

Thank you for explaining and that Philips HDTV is the killer! Unfortuntely also for the wallet. I definitly don´t have 4000 Euros to spare for a TV, but it definitly seems to be a kick ass one. The Sony is just 1200 Euros and that was kind of my limit for a new TV. Oh well.... nevermind.
