Question How to play 1280*960 resolution game while using a 17''LCD?

The ratio will be forced 5:4........

Every thing became taller.....

Any way can prevent the screen's distortion?

Or just leave a blank area at the top or buttom of the screen?

Go into the NV control panel, and change the Panel Settings to "Centered output", then it will leave small black bars on the top and buttom. Incase 1280x960 isnīt supported by your LCD monitor.inf, you can add that resolution thru "Screen Resolutions and Refresh Rates", also in the NV control panel.

Strange.... Iīm using the same version. Its the menu option on the top, above "Performance and Quality Settings". Is your LCD connected thru DVI or analog? Mine is connected thru DVI.

I don't have that option either. 78.05 drivers. My monitor does not have DVI output - maybe that has something to do with it?

What game is this?

There may be a patch or .ini workaround.

Here is a snapshot:

My LCD is Samsung 713N,and no dvi output and is this the point?

I've got some articles via google, and tried, but nothing happend.

SYMPTOMS
affects widescreen LCD displays
If you set the nVIDIA Control Panel to have a centered output, so that it wouldn't stretch to lower resolutions when you play games, it goes back to display adapter scaling (stretched gameplay) EVERYTIME you reboot your Laptop, and you have to change it again.
It is resetting from centered output to scaling every restart.
CAUSE
This issue appeared first with the release of v66.00 and higher drivers.
Previous drivers shouldn't need this fix.
With older drivers this option is saved.
nVIDIA apparently changed something that's wired into the driver itself.
SOLUTION

For drivers higher than v66.xx add the following line to the [nv_ControlPanelSettings] section of your INF:

HKLM,"Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Ru n", NvStartMode,,"rundll32.exe NvCpl.dll,dtcfg setscaling 1 DA 3"

rundll32.exe NvCpl.dll,dtcfg setscaling 1 DA <mode #>

Mode settings are as follows:
0 : Default
1 : Native
2 : Scaling
3 : Centered
5 : Aspect

NOTE: You might want to try Teraphy's "PHP INF enhancement" page to generate an INF customized to your aspect ratio needs

should also point out that you can toggle display adapter scaling with a hotkey through the nview desktop manager.
I have a nice pic of it that I was going to attach...
Since I can not attach it, I will just link to it.

Bill

P.S. Would be nice if one of you mods attached it for me so I do not have to waste photobucket space on it.

rundll32.exe NvCpl.dll,dtcfg setscaling 1 DA 5

doesn't work, when i put it in the registry. (?)

..But it works fine in a batch file, which i load at start up

GeForce Fx Go 5650, Driver:6.7.4.2, XP-Pro SP2

Thx
Schiko

Seems like only DVI connected LCDs get the menu option. Wow, that sucks.

Isn't 1280 x 1024 correct LCD resolution?

Well...it does say DIGITAL Flat Panel settings.

That's really cool though. agentkay, what screen are you running on?

Yes and that is the problem. You see, most new games coming out now are, for no apparent reason, not supporting 1280x1024 without some form of tweaking. Instead they use the 4:3 1280x960. Well, on an LCD screen with 1280x1024, this actually stretches the image out vertically, not only causing a noticable image distortion, but also ruining image quality. Apparently the only fix for this is to have DVI output on your panel, which makes sense. Too bad for those of us who bought cheap Samsung panels with no DVI output.
