Agreed. What matters to me is fast-paced killing with pretty graphics, and fun multiplayer. Sounds like it's got that covered. Still, we'll see...soon enough, we'll see...

yup - its got the graphics/sound and heritage to be a fine shooter - SOF2 another Raven game only scored 69% in the UK yet its my favorite FPS of all time.

Its all about what you want and expect - all I ask of Q4 is great graphics and sound with Ravens very gorey attention to detail.

I think im gonna love it and I think most of you guys will to (especially the old school gamers amongst you).

I refuse to be influenced by someone elses decision, I dont care if every review mag and site gives it a 10%, im buying it the day it comes out and i'm sure i'll enjoyit.

I stopped taking reviews seriously a long time ago. I said it before but the best review is the one you do by yourself after playing a game for at least 5 hours or more. Im sure Quake 4 will be just fine, both Single and especially Multiplayer.

I take game reviews like movie reviews, with a grain of salt

The only ones I pay attention to are from true gamers, like the ones in our forum.

Q4 is gonna rock no matter what PC gamer says. Pure and simple.

I dont know why on earth Idsoftware or RAven doesnt allowed Bots in their games. This was one of the reasons i have quake3 always in my Hardidisk.. and play it still today ,whenever i want to test a new custom high quality made level . [http://lvlworld.com/]. and unless the online server doesnt have the same level ,it will be impossible to really PLAY and test them online.. So bots support comes very handy , and usefull here. Once in a while when i need quick fast fps action ,i just load up Q3dm17 with a couple bots and still 5 years later of the game being released is fun.

I could care less about the 10 hour single player ,if at least they have some really solid offline multiplayer there with tons of old school popular levels. Single player is always welcome.. but its unfortunate that something like Bots is not supported anymore in their games. I think i will wait until someone from the mod community FIX the crappy engine and release something more complete for the first time ever in that engine ,that can be more representative of a complete game . Its a shame that idsoftware and their developers friends seems to think that its responsability of the community to finish their games.. QUake4 no bots and what next ? QUakewars same as Quake4 but without single player?

I think the 8.5 from IGN is much more realistic.

Well if it is anything like Doom 3 (other then the engine), then 70% is the right score.

Nah, Doom 3 is great and I'm sure Quake 4 will be also.

http://quake4.filefront.com/news/Qua...ry_Good_;22229

Here's a snip:

Over the course of its 15-year existence, developer Raven Software has been pushing the boundaries. It raised the bar (or lowered it, depending on your view) for hyper realistic gore with Soldier of Fortune and went where no developer had gone before with Star Trek: Elite Force - not just one of the best Trek games ever made, but also one of the best shooters released in 2000. One of its few non-shooter efforts, X-Men Legends, has become the best selling X-Men game ever. And no list of Raven winners would be complete without its collaborations with id Software, most notably the Heretic and Hexen franchises.

So why is it that Quake 4, Raven's recent teaming with id, plays it very, very safe? A solid shooter, it's nonetheless a throwback to a time before Half-Life and Half-Life 2, Call of Duty, and Far Cry - an era in shooters when all you needed was a big gun and an even bigger boss monster to aim it at. And unlike other Recent "retro" shooters like Painkiller and Serious Sam, Quake 4 doesn't offer inventive level designs, unique flair, or a budget price tag.

But there is one boundary it pushes: How much you're willing to pay for a 10-hour retread campaign and bot-less Quake III-style multiplay.

[...]

Final Verdict:

Highs - Loads of action; gruesome visuals; Q3DM17 with Doom 3 graphics
Lows - Uninspired gameplay; Stroggification plot twist goes nowhere; no multiplayer bots.
Bottom line - This old-school shooter suffers from a lack of 21st-century game design.
