My first micro was a Commodore-64=. My father bought it for us in 1983. I was 9 then. The first game he bought us was Pole Position. Then Gridrunner, Beach Head, and many more. Then an Amstrad 6128. Then he bought my sister a Sinclair ZX Spectrum + to carry it to school to computer classes in 1987. I used to carry my C-64 (we didn't have PC's in our school in Greece in 1987). Then an Amiga 500 in 1988. In 1992 he bought me a IBM ps/1 (286) and a couple of years later a 486DX2/50 to do my projects at the university.
From then I've been upgrading the PC on my own all the time. (this is not to say that I didn't spend a fortune for hundreds of games for the C-64 and Amiga, plus tens of peripherals for the Amiga and hundreds of magazines). I still play games for the C-64 and the Amiga on emulators for the PC (CCS64 and WinUAE) and get very emotional about it, since it reminds me of my childhood.

My first game was either jumpman on the commodore 64 or Dungeons and Dragons on the Intellivision. Can't remember which came first.

Hey, DCult, my IBM PS/1 was a 386, 16MHz. You sure yours was a 286? BTw, it ran Wolfenstein 3D fine, and Doom I with a bit of coaxing. I was able to install and run Tie Fighter Defender of the empire, but that ran atrociously bad.

Mild agnosticism —the view that the existence or nonexistence of God or gods is currently unknown but is not necessarily unknowable, therefore one will withhold judgment until/if more evidence is available. A weak agnostic would say "I don't know, but maybe you do."

I don't know, perhaps it was PS/2. I have to check it out. It was definately 286, very small form factor with good build quality, 12 or 14 inch color monitor, hdisk e.t.c. IBM used to have models by the same name. Anyway it still works! It is at our company's lab and is used to program eeproms for old traffic controllers.
