Hello Everyone,

Well, see how it goes. I ordered mine online with the Directors DVD with bonus stuff and while I was at it, Ordered Quake 4 DVD. Since I am out of town, it will be nice to have waiting on me once I get home to dig into them.

The game uses SecuRom Copyright Protection, you'll find the folder in your Application Data folder.

Yeah, I have that issue also (exactly, even the stretched screen).

I installed it and didn't install the patch at first. It sounded great and looked good but the performance in the first area was pretty bad depending on where I was looking (didn't really see any reason for it). The benchmark showed a min of 35 and averaged 60. This was at 1280x960, 4xAA/8xAF all game settings maxed, soft-shadows off. So, seeing 20s at the very beginning wasn't all that encouraging. So, I played around with it a little and decided to give the patch a shot. Installed the patch and now the framerates were great. Instead of 21, I was at 41fps. I was getting some sound popping though and when exiting the game, it hard locks every time. I tried turning off EAX HD, then EAX 2.0 but that didn't help. That's where I am now and I guess I'll go through the thread from the beginning to see if there's a way to keep it from locking up. This was with the 81.85s, if that matters.

Well, I don't know if it was the Patch or if it was me disabling HW Mixing in the Sound Options, but holy cow what a difference! I play with everthing maxed and no stuttering, freezing or anything, except when it autosaves, but that is okay. By the way, I agree with whomever said that this game puts Doom3, Far Cry, etc. to shame. This game is wickedly awesome!

BTW, my card settings in the CP are 4xAA, 16xAF, High Quality, VSync set to Application Controlled, Triple Buffering On. The in game settings are maxed and I play at 1024x768. This includeds Soft Shadows. I love this game!

Here's one screenie I took... (56K Warning)

*I had to resize just a tad so it would fit the limit size set by Imageshack.

If you're overclocking, try lowering it or start by trying stock settings. I went back to stock settings and it exited fine. I then went through several iterations before I found an overclock it would accept. For example, instead of running the fsb at 217, I had to drop it 210.

Edit: Can't seem to overclock the cards either. That causes it to lock up on me on exit as well.

You referring to the video on the director's edition DVD? I saw the F.E.A.R. prequel and F.E.A.R. machinima. Prequel is awesome and the machinima is funny as hell. Are there actual episodes? Must be on the bonus DVD.

Okay so I'm just going to chime in here because I've been playing since the first beta and some of the graphic settings are still a little tweeky. Most of you prolly won't notice the missing effects unless you know to look for them.

FYI, I keep all setting at max but AF @ 8. AA aside.
From what I can tell the biggest bug is enabling soft shadows and AA. If you have set soft shadows and AA on and start a game SS will not be enabled. If you hit esc after loading a level and turn SS off then back on they still don't come on. This is how I enabled them in the betas. However it seems there is a new bug. I now have to disable AA, go back to the game, hit esc, enable SS, go back to the game, hit esc enable AA and you have SS and AA together. Basically apply the AA after the SS. If you restart the game it seems it applies the SS before AA and you loose SS and have to this every time you play or at least for me.

However it seems when using any type of AA it makes the water solid (you can't see thought it) allot of people prolly haven't even seen the true water yet. The water is truly nice when working and transparent. If you know how to get AA SS and the water working together please share.

So I don't run AA. If I enable AA in the NV panel I get horrible shadows all over the place but the water works. So in order to run all the effects it seems, for now I must sacrifice AA. If I run anything higher than 1280x960 it runs to slow with SS enabled so I'm dealing with jaggys all over.

All in all this is a great game. I'm playing on hardest level to give myself a challenge and wow is it at times. I hope Nvidia or Monolith addresses this all. I also thought this was going to an ATI sponsored game. The pre-order disk has an ATI logo and I was surprised to see TWIMTBP logo on the dvd box and in the game, guess they wised up, a little late maybe but non the less.

Game on.

Edit: P.S. I can't believe another game in paper slip cover. What $55 bucks isn't enough to get a 50c plastic cd case? Geeez ya money grubbin little....mmmm.

Yeah its bonus content. It basically is the live action interview with that creepy Alma girl. Intresting to watch.

I'm also using the 81.85's. My system doesn't have any overclocking.

Anybody getting these weird hexagon and circle-shaped artifacts?

I'm using 81.85 and patch 1.01. Other than that and a few hitches here and there, the retail version runs good @ 12x10 2xAA/8xAF, soft shadows off, everything else max. Can't say the same about the demo @ the same settings cause I had major hitching. Anyways, I'm w/ the consensus on this one...this game is absolutely superb in all aspects.
