For those asking, in order to use AA and SS you just have to enable AA after SS every time you start the game. But be aware if you enable AA it looks like the water will not be transparent it will be solid and can't see through it.

no,it wont work.i mean the shadow is somewhat "soft" now~~but they weren't rendered correctly since lack of the penumbra effect.and i think that's why they have to force softshadow off when AA enabled

okay, this game is really rerally fun when it comes to gameplay.

but i am a "whats behind the game" guy. i like the technology that makes it all happen. i can safely say, i'm not impressed by the engine. its great and all that, but it just feels like it needs just a hair more refinement. dont get me wrong, this is still a great game.

I don't know man I think you may be wrong there. When I'm looking at slim shadows of railing and things the penumbra effect is surely working the shadow appears much slimmer than the actual railing with a slim dark middle and fades out to the sides. I would snag a screen shot but I'm at work.

in actual gameplay, you will notice no penumbra effect was rendered

it's stupid they release a somewhat ever buggy retail version well at least softshadow worked fine with AA in the SPDEMO~~~so i think we should complain this on the offical forum and see if they can make a patch to fix it
yeah, you can read here what Anandtech think of the Soft Shadows

Here you go, they are on page 10 in this thread I think. Obviously SS and AA working together but as far as I've seen the water will not be transparent when AA is enabled.

I don't get this whole big uproar about SS not working with AA, not that big of deal to me, plus, I couldn't tell AA was working all that great in those screenies. Anywho, I didn't know the water was supposed to be transparent. LOL Always had a relfection, like mercury, but that is probably because I have AA on in the game, but I do have SS off, so should it be transparent that way or is it not if you have AA enabled at all?

oh man~~i guess they have used another method to implement softshadow after the SPDEMO~~and this one is crap

I really wish they would go back to the original method in next patch!

Okay, I'm sure others have noticed, but no one else seems to have mentioned, so here it goes:

The Delta Force liason that you here through the radio is named A. Shepard.

Wasn't that the name of the character you played in HL: Opposing Force?

Just a little gee-wiz/huh for you.
