I have just finished F.E.A.R. It was an astonishing, disturbing exprience.
And I didn't understand a thing!

Install the latest Fear patch, and install the 81.87 drivers.. that should do the trick.

i hope you know how to set a new SLI profile since FEAR has no profile in the nvapps.xml.

& BTW do you run your AF @Q or HQ ??

with this profile you should get a major improvment with SS enabled & a slight improvment without them.
i get 1600x1200,noAA,8xAFHQ,SS :24(1%)/42(22%)/185(77%) with it while i was getting similar score to yours with the built-in profile.
1600x1200,2xAA,8xAFHQ,noSS : 34(0%)/60(2%)/205(98%) (before 32/52/120)

also with that profile you can get both AA & SS to work together like the SP demo , but there will be shadow rendering errors if both are enabled. you can check that by taking a spot with & w/o AA & compare the IQ.

Are you using Nhancer?
Does this profile stay saved or you have to do it everytime you start the application?
AFR or SFR?

Thanks,
Monnie

The new drivers have a FEAR profile that works almost the same so you shouldn't have to do that now. Initially, there wasn't a profile in the drivers and the mode that FEAR automatically picked wasn't very good (I think it chose SFR).

Hi all - I have been having a strange issue with FEAR where it runs perfectly until I exit the program, then it locks my machine up after about 5 seconds after I am back in windows... for those 5 seconds I cannot click on anything or run anything, but my mouse pointer can move... I have tried different drivers, settings, etc... nothing changes... I recently upgraded from 6800GTs in SLI to 7800GTXs in SLI and the problem persists with the new card pair... found a couple other people on the nvforums with the same issue, and they said they fixed it by removing the FEAR SLI profile and making a new one, with SFR as the default rendering mode.. so I tried this, and no matter what I do, FEAR always runs in AFR mode... it overrides ANY driver setting I try.. wow. I think this is a great game, and it runs perfect for hours on end, but when I exit, BAM! lockup... it's very annoying. Does anyone know what this is? I have been thinking it's something to do with SLI and the rendering mode and the handoff from 3D back to 2D... but that's just a guess... my systems stats are in my sig. please help me figure this out. thanks!

DOH - I should have read more of this thread...

http://forums.vugames.com/thread.jsp...7682&tstart=50

damn copy protection... that pisses me off that they can't make copy protection which does not lock a machine up... wow.

It's a problem with the game. Some people get a full lockup so you got lucky
People in the VU forums have problems like this too and the common thing is SLI. Until a full patch higher than 1.02 comes out (and not just the securom fix which seems to only have fixed the game+internet issues for some) then it probably won't change. People who were having the issue were just alt+tabbing out from the main menu and closing it in task manager. Seems to work with no freeze.
