I got the DVD edition this morning so just a few more hours of work and I'm home-free. I can't wait!

Edit: I couldn't wait. I took a few hours of annual leave so I could come home and start playing it. Just got it installed and watched the intro. Amazing beginning!

Awesome, you win! Even if you don't like the game, you're not working.

Some of the textures on some of the spaceships, and a few textures here and there are really ugly, that one introduction sequence... the beginning with the spaceship is kinda meh.
I have to agree with you on that. I like the game, but I feel like I'm playing last year's graphics because it looks like Doom3, and I've seen that before. You and I have a pretty similar rig, and I can bet that, like me, you didn't invest all that money to play games that looked like the ones you played last year on a 6-series card. Honestly, the appearance is so far the most disappointing part. I was expecting Doom3+ graphics, not Doom3 graphics. The one thing area that I did notice an improvement over Doom3 was the more common occurrance of fences and walls that had opennings giving glimpses into other room/areas, which was cool.

Ummm....this was the STATED PURPOSE of the game developers. Maybe you missed it.

LOL on all three accounts. Onslaught and assault were ripoffs of other games' good ideas and had been done before, BF2 is the same game as BF1942 with better graphics and commanders, and FEAR's AI is *ok* but certainly not as good as everyone says. In fact I find the game to be extremely scripted (still awesome though).

LOL maybe you should play it and see for yourself.

The reviews are mostly full of crap, and there's plenty of enjoyment to be found here. This game met and exceeded my expectations, and is a breath of fresh air in this stagnating genre. It works right straight out of the box, it's fun, the multiplayer is a blast, blah blah blah...but I'm wasting my breath. Sounds like you made your mind up already.

You just knocked every other game to praise a game you've been defending even before it was out, get real, evreyone has thier views and if bias was to come into play yours is the biased view.

It's still awesome though, I mean really, both games have exceeded my expectations so I'm enthralled with both of them.

edit: You know what? I think it's the lighting. The Doom 3 engine's lighting is incredible in Quake 4 and it really makes the environments feel alive. I remember thinking many times while playing that it looked like I was playing in an live-action movie the whole time, much more so than in Doom 3.
yes you are very right. The level design in quake4 is very, very good.

I kind of feel the same way, so far I have enjoyed the SP. I did play about a hour of MP and even though it is good. I would rather play Q3 for MP. Just does not feel like the Q3 action that I was looking forward to.

this is hella fun. yea, looking around you will be reminded of doom 3 now and again, but with the squads and marines spread about the game there is alot more life in comparison, keeps you on your toes so to speak. im not critical enough to focus on a low res texture and let it bring my expeirence down, but then again my pc is one step away from flying out a 2nd story window so for you guys who have the "super chimmy chonga" pc's i can understand your annoyance considering your investment.

other than that my gripe would be pc gamer, hungover? and yes the ladder, noticed that right away, was a throw back to the old days, dude can climb a ladder hands free! now thats a marine! heh

with that, theres toys to play with, cool weapons, action and sessy visuals, worth the grab.

Took the day off and forced myself to work out BEFORE heading to CompUSA to pick up the game.

Actually, on a slightly more serious note, not too long after I started working out regularly, my reflexes in FPS games, and in general improved noticeably. Working out 3-5 times a week = hot bod AND mad skillz!
