Default Bridge commander problems...

I have had this problem for a while with bridge commander and was wondering anyone might have any solutions that i haven't tried for it. Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance.
Whenever i start bridge commander all i get is a black screen. I can see the mouse curser but that's al i can see. Of course since i can see any of the menu options the only way to get out of the game is to ctl-alt-del. I have tried about everything that i can think of to fix this issue. Reinstalled the game, installed the latest patch, tried different driver sets, reinstalled windows. Nothing seems to work. All i still get is the black screen. This game happens to be one of my fav games just due to the awesome spaceship battles and some nice looking mods were just released for it that i am just dying to try out, help me please...
