It's a decent upgrade if you get good price for your old card. And as you noted, for agp it's the best you can get.

Honestly, I wouldn't upgrade to a AGP board, as AGP is about to go the way of the dodo. I'd save your money and upgrade to a PCIe system.

I second this dude. Just be a bit more patient.

To be frank- I honestly think that you should wait until MS releases Vista- probably the 2nd half of next year or beginning of '07.

The R5xx and G7x probably wont be much compared to the next generation coming out. This will be because the next generation will be designed with Vista in mind- thus DX10 and all that entails.

If I were you, I'd consider this current generation of hardware more of a refresh of the previous generation- a gap filler until Vista arrives.

Imagine how much cash you'd have saved up by the time Vista comes out- the latest and greatest vcard and cpu and mobo (probably socket M2 by then) would be available AND within your price range. You'd have a card fully DX10 compatible and (hopefully) significantly faster (or should I say more efficient?) than the current generations greatest.

Be patient and wait till Vista is what I STRONGLY urge you to do. If you can't wait that long- then wait atleast long enough to switch to PCI-e.

just get a AGP video card like a X800xl or wait til the end of the month
and go for this

http://www.diamondmm.com/X1800256PCI.php

but yea your gonna see a big improvement going to one of these cards and it will hold you off until vista thats what i did i got myself a x800xl agp on ebay practically new for 200 bucks and i love the card i can run all the games in 4x AA at either 1280x1024 or 1024x768 it depends on your cpu and ram ETC
it runs fear well and BF 2 and stuff
some good advice don't bother upgrading anything else maybe ram but thats it in the future until VISTA comes out thats what iam doing Just waiting and saving my pennies .
