Ran decent, was short, but obviously a tech demo. I wasn't expecting more than that

Looked great for the most part. The flower sprites on the cliff side looked like @ss though, sorry. I don't know though, HDR just doesn't blow my mind. I really can appreciate Valve's aethesticly driven decision to pursue it, but right now, it still just doesnt amaze me like it does them. Guess I'm desensatized or something

Thought the glitches in it were "cute," particulary with the floating models

Loved the commentary system. Similiar to how it was implemented in Riddick, and I really do love how they are finding there way into games now for the crowd who is really interested in the design/technological aspect of a game

In particular, loved the commentary node on the cliff when the designer started discussing why they did the cliff and its connection with HL1

I kinda liked turning on the flash-light

The "glow" effect and then the smooth transition to the regular flashlight outline is quite nice.

Wow Lost Coast looked amazing with HDR at 1024x768 with 4xFSAA, 16xAF, GC AA on and TA: SS ran very smooth between 85 to 150fps recorded on fraps. But I find it very disappointed short game and I cant believed it weighted only 335Mb that took 14 months to finished developed it, not very impressive.

I find HL2 HDR quite nice but it not as great as Far Cry HDR, I wished Far Cry had FSAA with HDR so I hope Crytek will find a workaround in future patch.

Oh and also I found lots of bodies floating when I loaded a game.

Actually there is fire, when you are on the cliff and look toward the town that gets constantly hit by the cannon, keep on looking until the 4th or 5th shot because then a house will start to burn. If you zoom in, you can see that they used the same fire sprite, but it looks "okay" since the angle canīt be changed and its that far away.

What do I think about it.....it was alright but I liked the HDR in Splinter Cell and Far Cry better but hey, its better to have this type of HDR than no HDR at all. It also ran at first quite poor (6800nu-unlocked and oced) at 12x10/8AF/2AA and a few times definitly not too far from becoming unplayable. Then I decided to move the IQ slider in the CP from HQ to HP (all optimz enabled) and loaded Lost Coast again. I got at least a 20% gain and it was a lot smoother and didnīt lost a lot of IQ at all, actually I couldnīt notice any.

When using HQ it ran poorer than the HDR in Far Cry and Splinter Cell but using HP it definitly speed up nicely. I wonder if Valve could speed up their HDR by supporting SM3 and maybe save a pass or two on the HDR processing.

EDIT: Oops, I just noticed that Sazar posted a picture of the house on fire I mentioned above. Thanks Sazar, I think it shows that its still the same fire technique like in HL2.

I have read all of the posts on this topic but still can't make up my mind if I should dnl it. Its 380 odd megabytes which is kinda a big deal for me since I only get 1 gig dnl a month... crappy expensive ISP services for ya in New Zealand. So should I get it????????

That isn't a bug. The combine are at church, don't you know anything? They levitate and assume a special praying position while facing east when they worship their god.

Do you get cut when you are over 1GB or do you have to pay for every MB after the 1GB is used up? One thing you could do, try safe as much dnl bandwidth in a month as possible and then a day or two before the month ends, download half of LC and then finish the download when the new month starts. That way you wouldnīt loose a third of your dnl bandwidth.

Either way, I donīt think its alllllll that great if youīd end up paying money or be without the net (unless you donīt mind of course), because after all its a 30 minute thing (when playing it 3 times). And its even less worth it if you have seen HDR in Far Cry or Splinter Cell anyway.
