Default TVout + XVideo = hang

I recently installed a MSI 6200 AGP card, which I'm trying to use for MythTV.

When I connect it up to a monitor, video playback using Xv works fine - with the caveat that in interlaced modes, the left and right halves of the screen are transposed. (Note: I can switch to an Nvidia Geforce4 Ti 4200, keep the exact same settings and driver, and this mode works fine.)

If I connect the card to my HDTV, using the exact same settings, the switched screen halves problem is resolved, and everything works fine, until I try video playback using Xv, at which point the system hangs. Console, network connectivity, everything is lost. If I run mplayer in a window, it shows a black window but you can see the screen behind. At least some of the time, I am able to get a clean shutdown by pushing the power button. Other times, the only recourse is to cut power.

The upshot is, I can't watch HDTV through either of the VGA port or through the composite out, due to different bugs.

Hi kraney,

I ran into the same bug (locking up when playing video on TV Out in 1080i). Someone else pointed me to a work around http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=55064. This allows me to play video but I do have tearing artifacts. Hopefully this bug will be fixed soon.

Regards,
Dale

Ah, I tried the workaround, and it got me around the problem. I also have artifacts, though.
