if fps isnt great in coduo, i dont understand why you expect to have more than 20fps in cod2, even dx7. A fx5500 PCI card isn't good at all.

Ok, just got the Collector's Edition of the game and tried the tweaks.

Seems like the picmip tweaks don't make a difference for me (maybe it's because I'm using an X800?), but with the r_multigpu and r_gpusync tweaks, I found that in my case it's better to set r_multigpu to 1 and r_gpusync to 0. Setting r_gpusync to 0 gave me strage texture artifacting (dunno why though...).

I'm running the game on 1024x768, DX9 renderer, 2xAA (adaptive AA enabled through CCC), 4xAF, smoke set to World Only, Dynamic Lights set to Normal, Corpses at Medium and Textures at High/High/High. Catalyst AI is also set at Low/Standard. The game performs reasonably well, with the FPS staying between the 30-40's.

My only problem is this: When I set the Textures to Extra/Extra/Extra, the game will play normally for awhile (no noticable performance loss or anything), but will lock up after 5 minutes or so, which will then force VPU recover to kick in. Has anyone ever experienced this and can offer any solutions?

Thanks in advance!!

I got the game for $25 at BB over the weekend. It's not the CE but I wasn't really serious about getting this game until I saw how good of a deal it was. The only difference with the CE is it's on dvd from what I can tell, my copy comes with a bonus dvd that looks to have the same content the CE edition boasts to have. I will install later today and let you know how it runs.

There's really no advice to be given in your case. Sorry but that's the honest truth. You're trying to run a very demanding game on an extremely outdated card.

This game owns my system which has a 6800GT, so I play at 1024x768 with all the details on. At 1280x1024 which is my LCD's native res, it gets to low 30s very often, which I really hate when I'm playing in online mp.

The card you have, not only is it very bad, but it's on PCI, which means that it's like probably just a bit better than GeForce4 MX. My 3.5 year old GeForce 4 Ti4200 would probably own it..

There's your problem. My 3.5 year old GF4 Ti4200 which would probably get raped in CoD2 (i.e. only get playable framerate 40-50 on DX7 mode, no DX9 details). However, that Ti4200 played CoD1 and CoD:UO at 1152x864 with all the details on very smooth (~50fps average).

If your comp had probs running CoD1, it's not gonna run CoD2 at good framerate ever. CoD1 was built on Q3 engine. If you didn't get like 60-100fps in CoD1 at high resolution and all details on, then don't expect to run CoD2 at anything better than like 800x600 with DX7 and all details at minimum (if playable even then).

An AGP 4200 would destroy it.

Look HJ, perhaps you felt it wasn't constructive, but it's reality. On AGP, a 5500 would be slow enough for modern games, but you've coupled it with an interface which hasn't been suitable for gaming in years; PCI will just kill the performance of any GPU.

Short of a new system, there's just nothing you can do.

4FPS!!!! WHY?

I don't get it.. I thought I had a decent computer and a decent graphics card.
Here are my specs..

Intel Pentium 4 3.2GHZ Extreme Edition
1 gig Ram
NVIDIA Quadro FX 3000 with 7.7.5.6 (77.56) drivers
80 GB HD
Windows XP Professional SP2.

Now I would like to know the best settings for all the options if someone would be so kind. I implemented the tweak, but no go.

Here are the options I have selected in Call of Duty.

And the texture quality is automatic. Can anybody please clue me in on some optimal settings. I know I don't have a crappy graphics card. It retails for about a $1000. Thanks in advance!!

I just updated my drivers off the nvidia site to 81.67. I forgot to mention that I get amazing fps using directx7 with every option maxed out even with the resolution set to 1280 x 1024.. so what's going on here?
