*WOW*, that thing puts out some text! I would have edited out the obviously unnecessary, but I feel it's better to leave log files and such unadulterated so there's no question whatsoever as to their authenticity.

But yeah, *WOW*.

FWIW, when I have the 'Load "glx"' line installed in my xorg.conf, the /var/log/Xorg.0.log file stops right after the X of GLX when I look at it with 'less':
Code:
(II) Initializing extension GLX
(END)
This is so irritating, but I love that feeling when a problem like this is finally SOLVED! lol...

Only spent about 8 hours total I think on it; I'm doing better than my average

Have you tried (re)installing the driver with the --force-tls option, and setting it first to classic (and retesting glx) and then setting it to new?

Yes I did. Neither seemed to work, but let me retry one more time.

I must not have fully tried with the --force-tls=new before; Or maybe there was something else that I messed with elsewhere... but it's working now!

Thank you *SO* much! Tuxkart works now! TORCS works now! Soon I'm off to try Cedega with Descent3....

I don't know if you get paid for this or not, but thanks so much for helping out here either way!

Cheers!

CJ

*BAH!* Forgot to reboot before running X, but I think I know what the problem is... and I'll betcha that's why it worked for me this time!

"Removing NVIDIA TLS links..."

vim'd the NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-7174-pkg1.run file, searched for tls and TLS and neither produced anything I could use.

I've copied /usr/lib/tls to a backup directory and removed write access to the files. glxinfo and glxgears still work, so apparently write access isn't needed. I'm going to reboot now, and if it still removes the links I guess I'm going to have to dig a little deeper to find out where it's telling the system to remove them and why.
