After spending hours reading the forums for an answer, I was hoping you guys could help me out.
I currently have a Nvidia GeForce4 MX 420 video card and am looking to upgrade. The decision is between the BFG Nvidia GeForce 6600 GT OC and the BFG Nvidia GeForce 6800 GT OC (both 256 MB). It looks like there's maybe $100 difference between the two cards. I'm running XP w/SP1, P4 2.4 GHz, 1 GB RAM, and I'm pretty sure the MB is AGP friendly. I'm also in the process of buying a Dell 1905FP Ultrasharp 19" LCD monitor (with DVI input). My main concern is will the P4 and/or 2.4 GHz processor affect the performance of either the 6600 or 6800 card? Is there another card I'm overlooking that's comparable to the 6600/6800 for a maximum price of roughly $320??? {btw - I'm thinking of eBay prices for brand new stuff - not retail prices} I would rather buy the 6600 GT OC for cost reasons, but if the 6800 GT OC is worth the extra $100 I'm willing to spend the $$$. Thanks in advance for the input. I appreciate any/all feedback!!! Dan |

The 6800GT is WELL worth the exta money. Much more powerful, more pipelines and vertex shaders, faster memory, MORE memory...it's a hell of a card.

I would say, what exactly will you be playin and with what settings.
If you will increase the res to 1280 and higher then 6800GT, your 100 bux wont go waste. If not the 6600GT. Same with the level of AA and Afx you will be using. both 4x 4x thn the 6800GT is the way to go, or else 6600GT. Overall the 6800GT has the edge that will cost you a 100bux more.

K man I have 6800GT and I say def go for the 6800GT because you need the balls to play the new games coming out specailly if you ever want to play FPS games like F.E.A.R. and think about using resolutions of 1024 and up.

get the 6800GT ... it will last you for awhile. I have had mine for over a year now and absolutely love it (there is nothing I cant play on full settings yet)! By far the best card I have ever bought!
Spend that extra $100 and really enjoy your system You CPU will limit the card though.... keep that in mind.
