Hi all,
I just put a new 6600 Club 3D card in my box (P4 1.8 with 512MB ram) running Debian unstable with xorg 7. When I tried to run glxgears from a console window it seemed to run really slow compared to what I remember seeing with my MX4000! Additionally I can't see framerates anywhere, if I recall correctly framerates would appear in the console from where glxgears was started, right? How would I go on and check the performance of my new card? UT2003 and Quake3 seem ok but I don't really notice any improvement although I went from a card with only 32MB of ram to one with 256MB of ram and a much higher GPU!!! Is there another app to check on this? |

A first step would be to check glxinfo and make sure you do in fact have direct rendering, and check over your xorg.conf as well (You should be using the "nvidia" driver, not "nv")

When checking glxinfo i get this output
Code:
name of display: :0.0
display: :0 screen: 0
direct rendering: Yes
server glx vendor string: NVIDIA Corporation
server glx version string: 1.4
server glx extensions:
GLX_EXT_visual_info, GLX_EXT_visual_rating, GLX_SGIX_fbconfig,
GLX_SGIX_pbuffer, GLX_SGI_video_sync, GLX_SGI_swap_control,
GLX_ARB_multisample, GLX_NV_float_buffer, GLX_ARB_fbconfig_float
client glx vendor string: NVIDIA Corporation
client glx version string: 1.4
client glx extensions:
GLX_ARB_get_proc_address, GLX_ARB_multisample, GLX_EXT_visual_info,
GLX_EXT_visual_rating, GLX_EXT_import_context, GLX_SGI_video_sync,
GLX_NV_swap_group, GLX_NV_video_out, GLX_SGIX_fbconfig, GLX_SGIX_pbuffer,
GLX_SGI_swap_control, GLX_NV_float_buffer, GLX_ARB_fbconfig_float
GLX version: 1.3
GLX extensions:
GLX_EXT_visual_info, GLX_EXT_visual_rating, GLX_SGIX_fbconfig,
GLX_SGIX_pbuffer, GLX_SGI_video_sync, GLX_SGI_swap_control,
GLX_ARB_multisample, GLX_NV_float_buffer, GLX_ARB_fbconfig_float,
GLX_ARB_get_proc_address
OpenGL vendor string: NVIDIA Corporation
OpenGL renderer string: GeForce 6600/AGP/SSE2
OpenGL version string: 2.0.2 NVIDIA 87.56
And I don't see a noticeable difference playing q3 or ut2003 ....... |

When you set "Sync to VBlank" in the OpenGL settings (using nvidia-settings), glxgears will run really slow.
Maybe this is the cause? |

Unchecked Sync to VBlank in nvidia-settings and no change!
I am right when I say that glxgears should output framerates in the console from where I started it right? |
