Since Yitzhak mentioned me, yes, we had the same problems with the NVidia cards. Got no answer to our needs, couldn't work on the driver ourselves and had to move forward, so we used other brands and now a new multiterminal solution (multiXnest) that is more hardware independent.
But still, if NVidia could get this solved, there certainly would be a lot of interested people. We developed a Debian based distro that will be installed in all schools of the State of Paraná, Brazil. It will use 4-head terminals. Right now, the State is buying 33.000 (thirty tree tousand) PCI video cards. NVidia will not be accepted because of this problem, unless it is solved.

Greetings, and good luck,
Daniel

I've received the system that Michael shipped, and have reproduced the problem he was experiencing with the 1.0-7676 driver. Unfortunately, a new and different issue is occuring with 1.0-8174, and I've opened bug 201264 for that issue.

Yitzhak & Daniel, please test with 1.0-8174, and update on your status. We shouldn't assume that the issue you're experiencing is identical to the issue that I've reproduced on Mike's system.

Thanks,
Lonni

Will be more than pleased to try the new driver and report to you, although I have not seen any reference in the (thorougly documented) README to any mult-screen related problems solved. My solemn request to you fellows is that you stay attentive to us and the growing multi-user community as a whole.

Yitzhak,
Your configuration and environment has not been explicitly tested with 1.0-8174. If this issue is not resolved for you with 1.0-8174, then my offer for you to ship a system where this reproduces still stands. That arrangement allowed me to quickly reproduce the problem that Mike was experiencing, and get a bug open for development to look at.

Thanks,
Lonni

Thanks Lonni,
Since shipping a system from here is not as simple as is in Mike's case, I'll give 1.0-8174 a try and would like to hear from you regarding Mike's system as soon as you can. Should neither of those produce a solution, I'll reconsult with you.
Let me add my appreciation for the attention you are devoting to this issue.

The bug opened for Mike's system is currently with development, however I should emphasize that he may be seeing a completely different bug than you, so you shouldn't depend on his bug fix as a fix for your issue.

If you are still having problems with 1.0-8174, please make sure to generate a bug report while the problem is present, so that we can try to determine if your issue is the same as his.

Thanks,
Lonni

The more I talk to Mike from Groovix and the more we hear from the community, the less likely it appears that we are all having unrelated problems with multiple boards. If you can determine what Mike's problems are, you have benefited all of us.
I did try the 8174 driver and after the second round of logouts, the machine froze - no ping, no ssh, no discernable kernel oops. Since I had to reboot, any bug report will be stale. This looks like a 8174 related problem.
I strongly recommend that you perform multi-card testing in-house. Not only would you catch some of our bugs, but you would probably catch a slew of other problems as well which occur on single card systems, but occur less frequently.

Enclosed are more bug reports with the additional multi-X server information. Each from a different kernel, but all systems using Nvidia boards.
BTW, any progress on examing the problems on Mike's machine from groovix?

Default Multi-user local X problem In all its' glory

I have included comprehensive debugging information which could definitely shed light on our problem.
The user shaulm logged out of X server :2 and caused server :1 to hit 99% cpu usage.
If you could help us with this one, then multi-user local X servers with Nvidia cards could be realistic. Please look closely at all the included files included in nvidia-bug-report.zip.
Thanks greatly in advance,
Yitzhak

The errors like:

I also have a multi-seat setup with two 6600 GT PCI-E cards. This setup works fine with NVIDIA driver 1.0-7664 (this is the oldest driver I used in this configuration). The two servers are started as follows (gdm.conf):

[server-Standard]
name=Standard server
command=/usr/X11R6/bin/X -audit 0 -isolateDevice PCI:1:0:0 :0 vt7
flexible=true

[server-Standard2]
name=Standard server
command=/usr/X11R6/bin/X -audit 0 -isolateDevice PCI:2:0:0 -config /etc/X11/xorg2.conf -novtswitch -sharevts :1 vt7
flexible=true

Unfortunately, with drivers 8174/8178 I get similar problems to those described in this thread. If I log out from the server on the first PCI-E slot (BusID 1:0:0) the server crashes, and I find the following in /var/log/messages:

This problem does not occur if I log out from the second head (BusID 2:0:0).

Further information: I run Fedore Core 3 with Kernel 2.6.11-1.27_FC3. I also tried increasing vmalloc=512M as recommended in this thread, but with no success.

Please tell me if I should post further information.
