I tweaked the patch available at

http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=6638

to apply cleanly with 1.0.8178 (i also applied patch U012206 to this version) and 1.0.8756 and exported the xen kernel symbol as suggested in the post. Both versions compile and the kernel module loads perfectly, however X fails to start with a "signal caught" error. The card was probed successfully and managed to communicate with kernel module (no errors logged to dmesg). Using -logverbose 5 it seems that X fails after the nvidia kernel sets up shared memory and starts handling interrupts (these are the last two lines logged by the driver before it dies). I tried to boot with noapic, acpi=off etc as suggested in the REAME with no success.

I am using GeForce FX 5200, Xorg 7.0.0 and kernel 2.6.16 (+xen patches) on Gentoo, for the record the opensource nv module works perfectly.

I'm also very interested in Xen aware drivers. In fact I'd be interested in driver enhancements that'll help improve ANY virtualization solutions. Like the original poster I'm not overly concerned about gaming, but would really love to see full screen video at fairly high resolutions in guest operating systems.

I'd like to play around with xen.

Some video acceleration would be nice, even if it only worked for the main desktop. I don't see how you could accelerate the VNC clients unless you use xf4vnc and chromium, but if you could that would be incredible!

Please check the following URLs to get 3D working with nvidia
graphic cards and Xen:

With two graphic cards, it is also possible to run two OSes
in a multiseat setup where you can play UT2004 simulatenously:

Default Add us for multi-deat XEN support also

Multiseat Windows under XEN on VT enabled processors is important to us also.

Arrow Re: Nvidia support for generic virtualization

How about NVIDIA support for 3D Virtualization instead of a specific virtualization product? I'd like to virtualize 3D games in VMware Workstation as well as XEN.

And since programmer Viet Tam moved from NVIDIA to VMware, there's already cross-pollination going on....

What is the actual status of XEN support in Nvidia drivers ?
When will it be included ?

Hi,
I just wanted to add my voice to those who are asking for Xen-aware NVidia drivers. I have spent this afternoon setting my workstation up as a Xen server only to discover that I can no longer run my dual-head monitor setup because the NVidia drivers won't run with the Xen kernel...

I can't even use nv in the meantime because it doesn't work with dual-head setups. This is a real pain and although I really appreciate the fact that NVidia have been very supportive of the Linux community, it seems to be taking a very long time to develop Xen-aware drivers.

Is it going to happen any time soon or should we make alternate arrangements?

Thanks,
Craig.

Hi,
I just had an update via PM from netllama who says that Xen support is on the roadmap but has not been scheduled for a specific release.

Oh well, I'm due for a graphic card upgrade so I might have a look around and see if anyone else supports Xen kernels at present. I really want to use Xen but I just can't live with a single monitor having used twin monitors for a couple of years now.

Cheers,
Craig.

I'd like Xen aware drivers too.

A stripped down Vista under gentoo/xen for gaming would be sweet.
