Exclamation Nvidia Nforce Driver 1.0-0306

i can not install the Nvidia Nforce Driver 1.0-0306 both network and sound module,on my Ubuntu Breezy 5.10 Box

i have done:

sudo sh
NFORCE-Linux-x86-1.0-0306-pkg1.run --kernel-source-path usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.12-9

but not sure if this is correct.

kernel-sources, kernel-headers are installed
maybe someone can interpret the Log file.
thank you
Tobias

First of all you probably won't need the nforce drivers. Sound works with the snd_intel8x0 module and ethernet works with the forcedeth driver. Both are provided by Ubuntu (and probably autodetected).
Second, it should not be necessary to use the --kernel-source-path option. Did you install the correct headers? Check with "uname -r".

First of all why use the nForce ethernet card? According to your lspci you have a Marvell Yukon Gigabit Ethernet card which is very well supported by Linux(much better then the reverse engeered forcedeth). Use the skge driver found in the kernel. As for the reason your ethernet is not working is because it looks like you have 3 ethernet cards, nvidia nforce, marvell, and broadcom wireless. You need to look in your configs and make sure that you are only loading one(Marvell for now which should be set as eth0). Personally im a gentoo user so I cannt explain how to do this the Ubuntu way but doing the following should get ethernet up and running

Code:
modprobe -r forcedeth
modprobe skge
ifconfig eth0 up
dhcpcd eth0
As for the sound the nvidia sound card is crap on any OS. If you want good sound pick up a cheap Audigy 2 and use that(its probably the best supported on Linux)

i do have a asus l5000d notebook, i can not change the soundcard there.
from your answer and my experience, it will then not solve my problems. with the
"ACPI table"

"MP-BIOS bug: 8254 timer not connected to IOAPIC"

http://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/n...nProblems.html

the workarounds do not solve the problems.
so I guess I will send the notebook back to asus, to fix that problem, since it looks to be a BIOS problem.

I have the excact same laptop and the excact same distro. It runs quite fine with both network and sound. The only thing you might change is to add the noapic option in grub.

it only works fine if i run "nv" module and wireless at the same time, if I use "nvidia" with wireless, xserver can not start, it crashes right after the Nvidia Logo.

xserver log file with the "nvidia" session attached!!!

thank you

Tobias_at,
If you're unable to start X with the nvidia driver, please generate and post an nvidia-bug-report.log as a plain text file (not as a PDF).

Thanks,
Lonni

Most people here compress the logs if they're larger than 100KB.
