As with many, I have been having lock-up issues with our 6600GT cards. We've been pursuing this officially with nVidia for months and I finally received the following response:
"I apologize for the delay in responding to you on this issue. Development
spent alot of time working on this bug, however they are unfortunately,
unable to provide a solution.
The problem is an unavoidable conflict between the motherboard's chipset
(Tumwater) and the 6600GT card which cannot be worked around in software.
This conflict is actually why Dell did not offer the 6600GT as an option
with these systems.
The only solution for this problem is to use a different graphics card. We
successfully tested with a Quadro FX540, however I'm sure that Dell could
also provide other qualified and supported cards that would not be afflicted
by this problem.
Please let me know if you have any questions."
Unfortunately, for me I have a lab full of Dells with these cards (this is at work) and nVidia nor PNY is willing to do anything for me. Looks like much $$$ down the drain! If others have the Tumwater chipset, the incompatibility between nVidia cards and the chipset may be your problem.

Re: 6600GT Update
This impacts Tumwater (Intel) chipset motherboards with some GeForce 6600GT's. Dell did not sell the workstation with a 6600GT, it was purchased separately.
