Default GeForce 7800 GS PCI Express clarification from NVIDIA

I want to clear up a bit of confusion about the GeForce 7800 GS PCI Express articles that have surfaced recently.

Without getting into the nitty gritty details, NVIDIA provides boards to our developers for their in house game development. These boards are meant for the sole purpose of inhouse engineering and QA. In the case of the recent GeForce 7800 GS PCI Express reviews that you may have seen, some of these developer boards were mistakenly given out to end users at an event the developers sponsored. These boards were never meant to ship in the open market.

NVIDIA has NO plans to release a commercially available GeForce 7800 GS PCI Express board. For any end users that many have received this board as a prize, NVIDIA will be happy to swap this out for a GeForce 7800 GT PCI Express board, or a GeForce 6800 GS PCI Express board, as these two boards are commercially available.

For the record though, what are the differences between that card and the GT? ...would it be safe to say the GT is a "better" card?

All the rumors were pointing towards a 16 piper on a G70 core, so I would say it's safe to assume that the GT would be/is better.

Although Brian says there will not be a 7800GS PCIe, he is not saying that there will not be a 16 pipe G70 card. This may in fact be the case, but it's not what he is saying.

Maybe hes hinting that there will be an AGP version available (heh, yeah right)

One thing Im a bit confused about is that NVidia doesnt produce cards\boards anyway... I dont believe theres anything stopping the board manufacturers from selling "7800 GS" cards with 7800GT chips that didnt make the cut.

I could be wrong though.

Maybe not now, when its time, NV will probably release it into the market.

But on 2nd thought, the 90nm midrange card will probably competitive to the 7800 GS that we see today performance wise while cheaper to produce, and thus make the 7800 GS totally un-necessary.
