joffe:

Just one hit... (if you didn't tried it already):
boot into runlevel 3 (don't forget to switch off vesafb!),
(nvidia.ko shouldn't be loaded)
do modprobe nvidia NVreg_SoftEDIDs=0 NVreg_Mobile=2 ?
now, what happends when you startx?

I will try that, even though 7676 works fine with vesafb.

The driver works great here. The xv-video issues in sli-mode, that i had with the beta drivers, are fixed now.
The performance imrovements in sli-mode seem to be still not significant, but i think if profiles will be integrated, it will get better.
I did not test doom3/quake 4 with the __GL_DOOM3=1 settings yet, but this will be my next test.
Is there a way to read out the thermal sensor of the second videocard?

If so, I would like to know what kind of Linux distribution so that I can test the driver on a freshly installed system.

The Xorg.log stops at the exact same place as it did with the 8168 driver by the way...

Thanks in advance
I only can confirm that i have the same situation like you have.
on my toshiba sattelite 1415-s115 with 'nVidia Corporation NV17 [GeForce4 420 Go] (rev a3)' i`ve got black screen and total freeze, even SysRQ-ALT-B does not help. I have kernel 2.6.14-2-686 from debian unstable. The previous driver at least allowed to startup X... and then freeze as soon as GLX was used. nice work Nvidia.

HINT: SysRQ-ALT-B will reset the computer if you hit it twice

If you have SysRq support enabled in the kernel it's better to
SysRQ-ALT-S sync
SysRQ-ALT-U unmount
SysRQ-ALT-B reboot
rather than just reboot.

The new drivers are multithreaded too? Any info on the functionality of the multithreadedness?

2.Blender(1) is working fullscreen without getting sometimes black.
3.RenderAccel is still working here (SUSE 9.2 32bit, KDE 3.3.0)
4.8174 seems faster than 7676 (glxgears: 7676: 12420, 8174: 13200)
5.UT2004, Quake 4, Serious Sam 2nd Encounter, Rune: No problems
6.No problems at all so far

Great Nvidia

No problems here, as usual. High temp bug still remains for me though. Next move I'm gonna try rebooting to see if the bug goes away, as perhaps the card is in some state still from the old drivers or something. I shall post back my results.

Could we have some kind of status update on ACPI support? As far as I can tell, the README on Power Management hasn't changed for several releases now so it's hard to tell if the details there are correct or not. It seems a bit archaic to say that the 2.4 kernel doesn't support ACPI well enough when most people should have moved to 2.6 kernels by now.

Phoronix has posted their Linux 1.0-8174 coverage with performance results (including SLI) at the two links below so far.

I have a regular MX420 and the driver works fine. This is slackware 10.1 2.6.12 kernel.
I did not remake my xorg.conf for the new drivers, just kept same old settings. I did however have problems with glxgears giving me 6fps, but a reboot fixed it. I guess I could also have unloaded old module and loaded new one with modprobe?
