I don't know about that, I'm just trying to say that the thread shouldn't be dead, because I'm still having problems.

Absolutely; 8174 is still dead on my Toshiba 5105 laptop. I'm still using 7676, because 8174 is reporting a zero pixel clock, making all mode lines unusable. Still waiting for any suggestions on how to proceed.

I have a 5105-S501, 1400x1050 is working, haven't tried tv-out or crt-out.

See (and post new replies to) http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=61610, that's the thread to follow for all NON-LEGACY acpi-only Toshibas.

Turn off vesafb in lilo.conf and try these files:
Attached Files
File Type: txt modprobe.conf.8174.txt (731 Bytes, 141 views)
File Type: txt xorg.conf.8174.txt (3.8 KB, 131 views)

Dr. Tyrell - Your problem is different. With a zero pixel clock, no mode is usable.

macemoneta, in post #19 it shows this...

(--) NVIDIA(0): Detailed Timings:
(--) NVIDIA(0): 1600 x 1200 @ 60Hz
(--) NVIDIA(0): Pixel Clock : 162.00 MHz
(--) NVIDIA(0): HRes, HSyncStart : 1600, 1664
(--) NVIDIA(0): HSyncEnd, HTotal : 1856, 2160
(--) NVIDIA(0): VRes, VSyncStart : 1200, 1201
(--) NVIDIA(0): VSyncEnd, VTotal : 1204, 1250
(--) NVIDIA(0): H/V Polarity : +/+

Looks like you have a clock.

Dr. Tyrell - That is the verbose EDID data; if it were being used that would be great, but EDID is disabled per nvidia recommendation. Just above the EDID you'll see:

(--) NVIDIA(0): DFP-0: maximum pixel clock: 0 MHz

That is what I have when I use the recommended configuration, ignoring EDID. So far, Nvidia hasn't recommended re-enabling EDID and creating a 1600x1200@60 modeline. I'll give that a try.

No good; same problem.

With EDID enabled and an explicit modeline (umc generated for 1600x1200@60), the same hard lock as described previously (power cycle required, no logs).

With EDID ignored, no usable modes because the pixel clock is zero. Back to 7676.

Ugh, sorry, i was tired last night and didn't see it.
Your screwed man, until they fix it.
Mine has that number showing 108Mhz, which limits my modelines and screen refresh.
Yours shows ZERO every time? Screwed!

I wonder, do you think Toshiba will help fix our woes? NO!

Nvidia gurus, Concerning our NV17 problems...

"DisableNV17fbReadWar"
Found this in Nvidia.ko, but it seems disabled.

Could this help?

macemoneta: does setting NVreg_Mobile=1 in module loading options for nvidia help with the hang"

For me it stops it hanging, but causes badness in modelines and tells me my hardware can no longer support my TV out configuration.

Its not a complete answer, I do it and I still have problems, but it seems to be a step in the right direction, I dunno.
