Default bug on logout

Hello,

I'm installing nvidia drivers on a Debian Sid.
I have stability problems when I logout.

In the syslog, I can see some errors :
NVRM: Xid: 6, PE0000 07fc 01012002 00000000 1b02021f 01012002

I found that if I disable the AGP with "NvAgp 0", I no more have thoses errors.
I tested with versions 1.0-8174, 1.0-7676 and 1.0.7174 ; I always have the problem.

Best regards,
Matthieu

I have a few questions:
1) Where did you get the kernel that you're using?
2) Which window manager are you using? Does this reproduce with other window managers?
3) How are you starting X (startx or automatically at boot)?
4) What specifically is happening when you log out?

Thanks,
Lonni

Hi Lonni,

Thanks for you help :-)

1) I'm using the kernel from Debian Sid
2) I'm using XFCE 4.2 but it also happend with Gnome 2.10.2
3) I'm starting X with gdm
4) What's happening : it's like if the memory is corrupted
- Sometimes only a line of the background is wrong (not correctly displayed)
- Sometimes gdm is altered and X is freezed (but not Linux)
- Sometimes I can still log on again, when I log on some programs crash
- If I continue to start programs I make the Linux crash

So, each time if log out and go back to gdm, the system become unstable.
But the system works perfectly until I log out (opengl works too).

Best regards,
Matthieu

I have a few more questions:
0) If you start X by running 'startx' does that have any impact on this problem?
1) If you boot with the acpi=off and/or noapic kernel parameters, does that have any impact?

I'll see if I can track down your motherboard (Asus A7N266-C, correct?) to reproduce this, but it looks like its an older model, so I don't know how likely I'll be to find one.

Thanks,
Lonni

Hi Lonni and gnutux,

Thanks for your quick replies ;-)

0) with startx I also have the same problem :
- the first startx give me a stable system
- then I close the session and startx again => graphical problems or program crashing

1) I tried every cases : nothing, noapic, acpi=off, noapic+acpi=off. I always have the bug.

You are right about my motherboard, it's an nForce 1 chipset.
The video card is an Geforce Ti 4200 64Mo AGP8X (working fine under Windows).

Best regards,
Matthieu
PS : I'm a french guy ^^

hmmm... an old card. I had problems with my old GeForce 4200 Ti 128MB (w/ AGP8x). It worked almost perfectly when I upgraded to GeForce 6600....

It might be caused by a memory stuck on the card's memory. I had my graphics messed when I tried to run 2 x-sessions at the same time.

Well, in my case it's working fine if I disable AGP. Moreover, I'm using only one X session at a time (I close the previous before starting a new one).

I think my system memory is good (tested by memtest86+) I don't know if there is a program to test the memory of the video card.

I would like to test the nvagp but I didn't success to unload the agpgart module :-/. I didn't find how to do in the readme.

Setting NvAGP=0 would disable AGP. However, if you're using kernel based AGP support, then you'd need to unload those modules before you could try using the NVIDIA AGP (NvAGP=1). Or build a kernel without AGP support.

Thanks,
Lonni

What's the difference between the kernel AGP (AGPPART) and NvAGP?
