Default Asus A8N-VM CSM hung up, freeze tips

Hi!

I use Asus A8N-VM CSM mainboard. I know about few tips which prevent linux from hanging, freezing. Maybe they will be useful for you.

BIOS 0403
kernel option: irqpoll solves hungup when USB device is plugged in.
(kernel will tell you to use this option if it is needed)

BIOS 0506
(this bios version fixed problem with USB so irqpoll is not needed anymore)
If you use 1.0-8174 nvidia driver, and computer freezes after running X server - add to kernel boot parameters option: acpi=noirq
It works great for me. Do not forget to ask asus about fixing broken ACPI in BIOS.
Remember: you have to manually turn off computer - this option disables automatic power off.
