I am unable to get XvMC to work on my new 6800 GS card, using either the 7676 or 8174 drivers. I've tried it with mythtv, mplayer, and xine. It appears that the XvMC library is explicitly excluding the NV42 chip that the 6800 GS is based on, based on the following results from mplayer:
$ XVMC_DEBUG=2 mplayer -vo xvmc -vc ffmpeg12mc /var/lib/mythtv/1210_20051207200000.mpg Is this supported, or expected to be supported? The NVIDIA driver README claims XvMC is supported on "GeForce4, GeForce FX and newer products", but this appears not to be the case. |

Sounds like a screwup to me, of course it should be supported.

Curious about mplayer, so I downloaded that latest version and tried it.
Looks like I am in the same boat, except that the chipset I use is (6150/430). If you look at the code for mplayer (vo_xvmc.c) you will note it gets a bad return from XvMCCreateContext(), this is what I had reported in a previous post for both xine and mythtv on my system. Attached is my output from mplayer and xvinfo. |

I get the same on my newly purchased 6800GS. I think they're missing "NV42 A1", which is the architecture for this card (iirc).
Anybody reported this bug to NVIDIA? Cheers. |

Yes, this is a known bug that has been discussed in several other threads on nvnews. This bug should be resolved in the next driver release.
Thanks, Lonni |
