Really? It isn't in the doc's list of supported cards. http://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/L...ppendix-a.html
Thanks anyway. I'll give it a shot.

It's quite a pain...
suicide on KDE? I couldn't find any window manager which skirts these problems. Though KDE apps quickly and inevitably lead to trouble. This is all a bit absurd...

Some hints (i'm on this situation for some onths now, and back when i bought my asus notebook it was even more expensive...):

1) Try XFCE4; it works more or less well here (Ubuntu, not Mandriva though).
2) anytime the problems appear, close the application u were using when things started to go wrong, switch to a shell session and switch back to the graphical one (do ctrl+alt+F1 and ctrl+alt+F7 after). After some time, this will grow an automatic reflex u will repeat many many times
3) take a look at this:
http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/show...263#post845263
This was for a 7300 GS, not the go 7300. Guess it will need some adjustments, but it's a clue at least.

I don't have my beautiful and expensive but ridicoulously problematic notebook in my hands in the moment (why should i carry it around anyway? always going down on me...), so i can't try on my own for a while. If you do, please report on the results

And sadly enough, don't expect an answer from the nvidia people.

I'm afraid we can only wait for stable Nvidia drivers for GO 7300.......I've tried the trick of switching between consoles and this works quite well (about other 15 minutes of autonomy, then the fog comes back.....)......I'm very sad.........

I'm fed up with waiting.

I'll try some of the stuff.
I followed closely mega's suggestion for the first try.
Didn't work.
I'll take a close look at the logs, and try to figure out where to touch.
Are u with me on this bartholomew? There's a chance we can figure out a way just by inspection, trial and error...

I noticed that when I have troubles with the video card on Gnome, logging off the current session and than logging in can fix the problem.....where can I find log errors?!?!

hmmm, depends on what u're looking for.
When it's X failing due to bad driver configuration, u can see the log straight. That's the only thing i've been paying attention to.

anyway, u can find the log file under /var normally.
usually a search of the kind

$ find /var | grep <something>

where <something>=X or xorg or XFree or something

will let u find the stuff.
Of course the search can be more sophisticated, but oh well...

(hmmm... how does one grep the occurence of two strings straight?)
($ find /var | grep <something> | grep log would work anyway, for the occurence of <something> AND log)

Now in our particular case, i still think some goofing around with Xorg device driver options will get us through, at least a little better. I'll be trying some of the stuff next week (just can't do it now).
