Just got the 1.0-8174 drivers. Tried to run ut2004 and it keeps locking up for seconds at a time, eventually freezing the whole machine. Also, the textures go kind of weird, with solid blocks of colour instead of textures on some triangles. I haven't had it running at all on this setup, although I did have it running some time ago on the same hardware and a different install.
I'm hoping I haven't fried the texture RAM or GPU (I haven't been overclocking or anything silly, but one of my case fans did fail). The most interesting bit of the log is probably the these two lines... Code:
[ 3993.404976] NVRM: Xid: 8, Channel 00000003 [ 4019.915357] NVRM: Xid: 8, Channel 00000003 |

I had the same problem - did a cold reboot and turned off composite - seems to has resvolved the issue. RenderAccel still on though. |

silly_penguin,
Does this reproduce with RenderAccel and Composite disabled? Also, which motherboard and BIOS version are you using? Thanks, Lonni |

It reproduces with Composite and RenderAccel off. Also tried turning off DAMAGE, RENDER and AllowGLXWithComposite after I tried that, still locks up.
The Motherboard is an MSI K8T Neo (Via K8T800 chipset). Was running BIOS ver 1.90, now running 2.20, no change. |

So anyone got any ideas? Should I push a new video card up my Christmas list, coz this one's busted, or take it off coz my motherboard won't handle it.

I am not sure if this will help you, but we do have no problems here with UT2004 and 1.0-8174. Both PCs are Athlon64 3200+ with a 6800GT(AGP). We played yesterday at least 6 hours on both PCs UT2004 without any problems.
UT2004: Version 3369 Nvidia: 1.0-8174_x86 AGP Driver: AGPGART AGP Rate: 8x Fast Writes: Disabled (not supported from the motherboard FSC D1607, also Via K8T800) SBA: Enabled RenderAccel: On Last edited by tux_gt; 12-08-05 at 10:30 AM. Reason: Via K8T800 |

I had this problem (it sounds exactly the same anyway). It turned out there were some residual files left from the previous driver (8168). I manually deleted all the files installed by 8168, and reinstalled the 8174 driver.
Working perfect now. It am running the latest modular X, and it might have something to do with the new directory locations. Ken |

kgoombr: That's very interesting. I was also running the leaked beta (8168). I'm pretty sure that I ran the uninstall script, but I may not have, or it might have missed something.
I don't suppose that you remember what it was that got missed, do you? Or how you found out that there were some files left over? It's also possible that I didn't stick --purge on the end when I uninstalled the stock ubunutu breezy badger nvidia driver (can't remember what version this was). So maybe that's left some files around. Also, is there any way to find out what the Xid and channel information means? Or is it only useful if you can get at the source anyway? |

A little more info. Quake 3 exhibits the same behaviour. But not as quickly, and without as many funky texture probs.
Checked my install, and it doesn't look like the beta driver left anything around either. |

Issue solved. I'm not sure if I didn't have the card seated correctly, or what. But I pulled out the card to test another nVidia card (to find out where the issue was, once and for all), when I put the Ti4600 back in, everything started working fine... Go figure!
