Hi,
I tested nvs 285 pci-express on a chipset ATI rs480, with kernel 2.4.30 and 2.6.14 with XFree86 4.5.0 and Xorg 6.8.2 and 6.9 : X was unstable. I need to use the nvidia driver to work on a dual screens. I tried a lot of configuration of X, dual or not, renderaccel or not, glx (glcore and dri=off)... My X configuration works but freeze with a large activity, 2D or 3D... But on a chipset intel 915 no problem with this X configuration (xorg.conf/XF86Config-4). I tried to recompile kernel-module with "static int NVreg_ReqAGPRate = 1" and "{ NULL, "ReqAGPRate", &NVreg_ReqAGPRate, 1 }," in os-registry.c to decrease the AGP rate, like explain in appendixF of doc drivers, but without succes. Someone knows this problem ? Thanks, Luc ps: excuse my for my English... correction : any nvidia pci-e + ATI rs480 = freeze (test on geforce 6200 and nvs285) |

Please generate and attach an nvidia-bug-report.log file (please also see http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=46678). Does the problem persist if you disable AGP?

Which is the best manner of disabling the agp ?
I tried "option NvAGP=X" in xorg.conf (X between 0 and 3) but the NvAGP in /proc/drivers/nvidia/registry didn't move... Then yesterday I tried to change NvAGP in os-registry.c and now the NvAGP in /proc/drivers/nvidia/registry is good, but X always freeze... I will test a geforce 6200 pci-e on this RS480... |

On a geforce 6200 pci-express it's OK.
With Simple or Dual screen with a lot of glxgears, the system is stable, then I'm think the pci-e it is not the problem. |

I misread your initial post; if you're using a PCI-E graphics card, then modifying AGP settings won't have an effect.
