I just installed the latest version of the NVIDIA accelerated driver:1.0-8174 and it installed great and all, but it is only letting X run at 8-bit color (or so it appears; it might actually be lower). If I fall back to the nv driver, everything looks fine, but I want 24-bit color with this new driver. Also, I just tried running the gimp under this color, and it was making the colors go crazy! When the mouse was over any of the gimp's windows, everything looked orange, and when the mouse wasn't over a gimp window, everything was blue. It only did this as long as the gimp was running. Has anybody encountered this?

Please generate and post a bug report. Also, was this problem present with 1.0-7676?
Thanks, Lonni |

I tried several different versions of the driver, and even a different card (the one I'm interested in is an MX400, the other card I tried is a TNT2, which I tried with the latest driver that supports it) and with every different driver version, and with both cards, the problem persisted. In the Xorg log, it says the glx module loaded fine, but glxinfo says: Error: couldn't find RGB GLX visual
and blender won't start, either, and it's all in 8-bit looking color. |

I think I might have just figured out something that will give insight. I have confirmed that it's doing 8-bit color, by this line I found in the X log file:
(II) Setting vga for screen 0. (==) NVIDIA(0): Depth 8, (==) framebuffer bpp 8 and then later in the file, it says that it can only to OpenGL at 16 or 24bpp, so the problem is that it's doing 8-bit color; that's why glx isn't working. But why is it doing 8-bit color when the nv driver does 24-bit without a hitch? |

Okay! I just figured it out (THANK YOU, NVIDIA!). I just had to add the following line to the "Screen" section: DefaultDepth 24
YAY! |
