Default 8178 driver and software suspend 2: consoles corrupt

Hello everyone,
I have spent quite a while attempting to get my toshiba tecra m2 laptop working with gentoo linux. I have had some sucess ... but have a few issues left with the nvidia drivers.
1. I am getting corruption when using kompmgr in kde. Other than that, performance with kompmgr seems quite good.
2. Hibernate appears to be working with software suspend 2, but when i come back from hibernate my framebuffer consoles are corrupt (it looks like multiple copies of the text are written on the same space, shifted slightly).

I am running the latest drivers and starting the module nvidia with NVreg_SoftEDIDs=0 NVreg_Mobile=1. I am using vesafb-tng for framebuffer.
Particularly the problem with console corruption is bothering me alot. I read in a thread that it was solved for some people using the module options and by upgrading the driver ... but its still happening for me.

Thanks in advance for your help!

PS. Its very nice to see such an active community here, and such good support from nvidia (my desktop has an ati card and the drivers are horrendous).

Have exactly the same problem, software suspend 2 + nv.c hack, results in corrupted consoles after a suspend.

Using vbetool (search for it in this forums) actually restores the consoles, but you have to do it manually after every X -> console switch.

What's the developer's stance on this issue?

I emailed nvidia a bug report a few days ago and have not gotten a response yet. Perhaps that is because of news years though ...
I will be waiting tomorrow and the next day.

Does this happen with VGA consoles and ACPI S3? ACPI S4 isn't supported at this point in time, as documented in the README, and high resolution consoles may not be fully saved/restored.

I really need hibernate to disk support. It works quite well right now using software suspend 2 on my toshiba laptop ... except for this framebuffer console restore issue.
The consoles are being restored (I can see the correct text on the screen), its just that image is corrupted.
Are there any plans to support software suspend 2 (to disk)?

Also ... This cant be that hard because I am reading that this garbled console issue was not presented in the 7000 series drivers.

an update on this issue ...
i found on the software suspend 2 wiki that console corruption does not occur if the framebuffer console and X are running at the exact same resolution and color depth.
May I ask that NVIDIA please find the cause of this issue and resolve it? I am that once they know exaclty when it happens it cant be too hard to fix, and it will make alot of people happy

Am using 7676 drivers and the console corruption exists.
Any fix to this issue yet?

btw. Since we have a working workaround with 'vbetool' I don't see why it is so hard to implement it?

Hi, I've got the same issue, with swsusp1 and swsusp2. Also suspend to RAM (ACPI S3) doesn't work if an X server is running when I suspend, and this has happened with EVERY version of the NVIDIA binary drivers and ANY kernel version so far.
Using vbetool to restore the display is necessary even if the nvidia kernel module is not loaded. Sometimes when I suspend WITH X running and nvidia drivers I can still use the console to shutdown the system although restoring the display won't work even with vbetool. I have a GeForce FX Go5700.

This issue is really annoying me as suspending with my laptop is not of much use if it requires shutting down X all the time ...

Maybe my card is just broken somehow, as it seems to work with other people's computers? I hope this is going to work sometime ...

CALLM
You card is not broken. Its a100% a driver issue. Since with the default NV driver all works great. Anyway for the console corrruption U need to apply to KERNEL line the same resolution U are using than when Ure in X.This almost always works

eg.: For 1024x768 U would apply in GRUB:
Code:
vga=0x318
at the end of kenel line
