Default 6800gt help needed asap

Well, I have had my bfg6800gt for just over a year now. Been running it at stock speed for the last 6 months, no problems.
Over the last month or so, my computer boots normally. I can see the windows starting screen, but as soon as it changes the resolution to my predetermined setting and launches the profile manager in XP I lose the screen. It looks fragmented and colored snowy, like youd expect with a toasted card.
I can boot up in safe mode, all is good no problems.
I believe it has something to do with the resolution change.
I have reinstalled the latest drivers, as well as my original ones. Doesn't help.
This used to be intermitent, now it happens all the time.
I checked my heatsink and temp... all is good.

Is there anything else I can try or is it hooped?

thanks guys

Is it possible for you to try this card in a different PC? Take a close look at the capacitors and look for any broken connections.

Well,
update:

I swapped my old geforce 2 into my current machine.
I still see some odd tearing through out the middle of the screen every few seconds. I am abviously running old geforce2 drivers which were not made for xp, but either way they shouldnt tear the screen...correct?

My 6800 seems to be running fine on my older computer:
p3 933
300 watt ps

Makes me believe that perhaps it is the motherboard.
I am running a new lcd monitor, so I dont think that is the problem.

ideas?

I just dont want to start buying parts till i get it right.

any input would be appreciated
thanks

It sounds to me like you have your refresh rate set wrong. The screen will kinda move up and down super fast and it just looks like a bunch or color static. Sometimes you can make out stuff to click on. If this is the case boot to safe mode (hold F8 durring boot) and change the res to somthing lower and a safe refresh rate like 60hz. Then reboot and I'll bet you'll be fine.

It really sounds like a refresh-rate over-ride or something. You have a CRT or LCD? If LCD then it's most likely not refresh since they tend to interlace and scroll while I've seen older CRT's without the circuitry to quench undisplayable refresh do exactly what you are describing.

I had a crt and recently purchased and lcd, it occured on both displays, the same.
I reseated the card again and hooked up a different, dedicated power connector to the card.
Seems to be working now...
for how long I dont know,
My gpu idles around 47,48 degrees and maxes around 70-75.

I guess I'll just see what happens
thanx for the help guys
