Exclamation 6600 with GPU on OPPOSITE SIDE!

Quote:
All the typical graphics cards usually have their graphics processing unit (GPU) installed on the front-side, which means that when installed into a conventional tower computer case, the GPU does not dissipate heat in the most efficient way. Hot air typically tends to go up, which means that part of the heat conducted by the heat-sink usually returns to the GPU, which reduces overall cooling efficiency. ASUS installed graphics chip and memory on the backside of the print-circuit board to ensure that the heat goes away from the card.

I left the PCI-E x8 slot open where your monitor plug goes(the little sheet metal piece where you plug you stuff into) so some of the heat comes out the back from the gpu...

This should be a pretty efficient and good idea...

Hmm interesting idea , but might not be practical for high-end GPUs esp when you use a large HSF for your CPU.

I see this as more practical for someone with water cooling. Just drawing upon what I've seen of those setups and how this card is configured, there would appear to be less of a chance of a hose kinking because it wouldn't have to be routed around the "front" of the video card to where GPUs traditionally reside.

For someone with standard air cooling, I would agree with you that a large heatsink would simply move hot air over the GPU, thereby negating any airflow benefits.
