Re: NVIDIA driver and DPMS: backlight never switches off
I done many other updates till I checked now xset -q so can not be sure if this helped. Only one thing pushed me to make a check for DPMS. In X.Org 6.8.2 log (attachment at post #8 above this message) I used to see such line:
(WW) Open APM failed (/dev/apm_bios) (No such file or directory).
Now in X.Org 6.9.0 this line is replaced by:
(II) Open ACPI successful (/var/run/acpid.socket)
I can post here my new X.org.0.log if you wish.
xset -q says:
DPMS (Energy Star):
Standby: 600 Suspend: 1800 Off: 3600
DPMS is Enabled
Monitor is On
If you are using KDE, remember to enable Power Management in Control Center (Screen->Power management tab). Power Management is disabled by default in KDE.
It looks DPMS is really working now. When I go out to eat dinner I left computer displaying KDE desktop screen. When I came back the screen on my NEC 1560NX DVI-D connected was all black and the power light (usually light green) was in orange colour. I moved mouse, orange light turned green and desktop appeared.
Install also acpid. Kernel must have acpi support compiled.
The bios must have working ACPI. For example my Asus A8N-VM CSM mainboard has broken ACPI in bios so I had to apply a patch to fix the asus mess.
