Default The requested configuration is not supported in this hardware.

I've been using the 7676 driver in gentoo for a while and just today tried to update to the 8178 driver. Basically the xorg log says "The requested configuration is not supported in this hardware." even though nothing has changed in my xorg.conf. I'm currently using twinview on two CRT's connected to my geforce 4 ti 4400. I've tried many permutations of settings, and have browsed many posts about this error message, but no one seems to know what is wrong. I know that 7676 is the latest driver that I can use before I encounter this problem.

Thank you for your time and effort,
Chase DOuglas

Sorry for the delay. I've attached the log. Again, it works with versions before 8000 I believe.

Thanks for the help.

According to your X configuration, you're specifying a 1280x1024 mode, yet requesting Metamodes of 1024x768. Can you try bringing them inline so that you have the same thing for both the Modes and Metamodes?

Thanks,
Lonni

I changed that, but still the same error. I've attached the new log in case anything is different.

If you change vga=792 to vga=normal does that have any impact?
Does this reproduce with a kernel.org 2.6.14.6 kernel?
Are you able to start X with a single CRT?
Are you able to start X with two X screens, instead of TwinView?

Thanks,
Lonni

I see you are a gentoo user. These pages may help.

I tried vga=normal, same error. My kernel is now 2.6.15-gentoo-r1, same error. I can start with a single CRT, but if I try two X screens on the different monitors, the first one starts, the second one errors with the same error. I've attached the nvidia-bug-report.log for the two X screens error.

Thank you

My first nvidia-bug-report.log was with twinview. In my last post, the log is when trying to run two X screens on the two different monitors. I have tried running two X servers on the same monitor, and that works fine.

If there's another configuration you would like me to try, let me know.

Thanks

Is there any way I can trick it into thinking it's another card so that it won't give me this problem? It seems just like my card got lumped in with other cards that don't have multiple outputs in the driver.
